Rust threat reminder

Rotorheads:
After 2 days of trying to figure out WHY I was getting a little pool of water behind the rear driver wheel everywhere I parked, it occurred to me to peek under the rear bumper - sure enough the DRAIN HOSE on that side for the rear hatch was no where to be seen! As pic shows, here's where these go if not properly shoved thru the hole in the rear panel under the bumper! After the last car washing, the water (and gutter gunge) all merrily flowed into the fender well where Mother Nature is happy to do her handiwork (read: rust). There is a plug down there, so I drained it, sponged out the water, shoved a hair drier into the hole for a bit (all through the removed tail light hole) - and, yes, re-routed the hose. I must have pushed it in by accident while dutifully running a wash mit under there

Happily my panel has been POR15'd along the bottom seam, but even that won't stop Rust from doing its biz elsewhere once water is sitting there....

....thought I'd pass this reminder along.....

No damage done Dave - but hope it might help as a reminder - makes you wonder how much of the rear fender issues relate to these damn tubes getting knocked about? Sure a wake up call for me from now on!
