Rust repair on a track car?
Certain classes state that you're not allowed to strengthen the chassis by welding. This;d include stock class, I'm pretty sure.
Unfortunately, the 7 that I'm planning on using for the track has the bin rust and it's gone through part of the suspension bracket.
My original plan was to grind the hell out of it so that there's no rust left, Weld in Angle iron on the interior (The bracket is just above the floor on the inside.) and weld on a piece of thick (1/16-1/8th inch thick) sheet steel on the outside.
Anyone run a rust bucket at the track?
What'd you do to repair the rust and comply with sanctioning rules?

i am not exactly sure but as long as you dont make it bigger or stick out father i would think that you would be fine if you explained to them but i am not exactly sure, you woul dneed to check with the organization you are racing in, they should be able to tell you, and if not just coat it with that undercoating crap and i doubt they will know what your 7 is supposed to look like ehh? althought i would never cheat but in this case its just to get rid of rust so personally dont see problem, also maybe if you just got some plate and cut them to the rust size, cut out the area and weld the plate in place. (I usto weld in a factory heheh ewas so much fun if you need help welding give me a holla!)

Leaving the rust could fail you in tech. If repaired with the same guage, they shouldn't have a problem. You may wish to find a tech inspector and ask him/her, prior to beginning the repair, they should be available for questions like this. I would take a full set of pics with me when tech inspection time comes to show that you repaired as stock and did not modify.
As stated earlier, undercoating can hid quite a bit.

I wouldn't think that a rust repair would be seen as chassis stiffening. As long as the repair is kept in the affected area, and not used to prevent chassis flex, I don't think there would be a problem. I'm sure tech has encountered this issue many times before. Check with them, and I'll bet they will tell you what not to do.......
