Arrow runs fine then not

have a jeckell and hyde thing going with my car. I am on the second carb in 4 months. At times the car run perfect and other it stalls as I go down the freeway.
Most accelerating starts the problelms that cause the backfiring and stalling. I have removed the rats nest and have a racing beat strett pipe. No real cause and effect beyond this. Hot or cold. I can be diriving for 30 miles and all of a sudden it starts up. In time it might go away and other I just manage to limp home.

As a side note. What is average for the number of turns out for the fuel mixture screw?

3 turns out is a starting point for the mixture screw.. As far as your stalling problem start with the basics, plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter and maybe check the timing..

Star with that.. also what kind of 7 do you have?

I have and 84 GSL that I put and engine for and 83 GSL(12A) into. Haven't been able to get it right. I did put in new plugs, plug wires, fuel filtern and ecen replaced the dist. cap. I haven't done the air filter as it looked pretty good. I've moved the timing around a bit with no clear change. It does idle rough and get get it to be stable under 1000 rpm's.

I got a second opionon today, the timing is OK and the carb is tuned to where it should be. I do have a leak coming out of the exhaust manifold I believe. Have to address that. I am trying the ATF this evening. The fuel pump will be the next step. Thanks for you help! It ran perfect for about 25 minutes, really strong then it acted up. After we meseed with it a bit it cooled and ran good part of the way home. For some reason I was able to limp home in5th gear at about 1400rmp's

Possibly intermittent fuel pump. I had stock pumps go south on me and there was no rhyme or reason for it.

ignitors? electronics are known to be heat sensitive when marginal. also may be sensitive to rpm (duty cycle).
