Running ToooO Rich.

Ok u guys have seen the lucas oil stabilizer well today i figured it out. The car starts fine when its cold but not when hot completely reversed situation cause if it was oil/coolant seals it would run bad cold and start fine when its warm.

The car is running too rich! just simply too much gas. It flooded twice today shot blackish smoke out. black = tooo rich! So now when i start it I hold the accelerater to the floor to open up the intake to let air in rmix witht he gas and create the correct ratio of air and fuel. When i turn it off i rev to 3000 then turn it off and let it burn the excess gas off! it all makes since why it was shaking too because the excess gas causes funny combustions and thus causes vibration..

what carb are you running? if it's stock then it may need a rebuild... because otherwise i don't think it's a matter of running too rich. the stock nikki is far from that if in stable condition.

as usually stated, make sure your float vent solenoid is plugged in and has voltage getting to it when the ignition key is turned to "on". but, nonetheless, this really wouldn't affect cranking.

starts great when cold, but floods when hot is a sign of low compression. test your motor and make sure all faces are good. if compression is fine, then you either have a carb problem or ignition.

coils may be bad, when cold the spark can be slightly stronger then when warmed up it fades. this is all up in the air ofcourse. start doing the normal tests....

- check compression (good to know regardless)
- check for good spark on ALL plugs
- what is your timing at?
- let us know what comes up

i really hope it has good compression cause it runs pretty good i know i need to do an actual test but once it warms up it runs like a charm.. but i guess we will see. will a piston compression tester work?

btw it is stock nikki.

yes, a piston comp tester will work. make sure to take note of every face of both rotors. so turn the motor over for a bit to make sure it's all equal.

sometimes the springs can go flat making it real hard to start but when running it'll seem fine due to the seals being pulled out and creating more compression. so definately get a test and know for sure.

and if it runs great when warm, the nikki is probably fine... which means it's probably not rich. the nikki stays around the 13's in afr's under load and will cruise around mid 14's in stock form... which is far from rich. hell even if it was in the 12's you'd be fine. but, as said before, if compression is fine... look in to your ignition/ timing

well this may be bad but the car is parked in the garage and when we park it in there we can smell gas and believe its dripping gas.. im buying a piston compression tester tomorrow hope it has good compressioN!

Hmm, did you just try adjusting the mixture?

Easy to start when cold, but hard to start when hot is a classic symptom of a timing issue. However, if the car is parked and you can see gas dripping into the carb it may be a gas tank venting issue. Try parking the car with the gas cap loose or removed, then see how it behaves next time you try to start it.
