Running on one rotor 85 GSL-SE?

I have a number of 2nd gens and race one with SCCA so I am pretty familiar with the 13b but not one with a distributor :-) . I am working on a friends 85 GSL SE and was trying to diagnose a rough idle with no power. It sounds like it is running on one rotor but yet it runs and idles too well. Whenever I've lost a rotor on my second gens they would barely start and would never idle.

The compression is very good with 3 even bumps at 125 psi. The timing marks are not anywhere near where they should be but from searching the site it looks like the pulley could have been put on wrong (on the 2nd gen the pulley only goes on one way ie the 4 bolts aren't evenly spaced). Where it runs the best the timing looks like it's off 180. I'm getting spark at all 4 wires and have good plugs.

I'm guessing a bad injector or no pulse? I think it is the rear rotor that is not running.

If it helps, in my sig line is a link to the online FSMs that you can download. If you suspect that an injector isn't firing, there are several ways to test that. You can hook up a noid light, use a stethoscope that has the metal rod, a vacuum hose with one end on the top of the injector, the other end stuck in your ear, etc.. Also, pull the cap, rotor and plugs for inspection

In the archives there is a pictorial 'How To Find TDC' that was posted by Wacky Racer, that's specific to pre-86 rotaries. If the injector is firing, then it's time for a Seafoam treatment.

well you've got the basics. compression, spark. fuel is your next step, the only time this has happened to me was when a pin backed out of the injector connector, i had just had it apart.

It's been 12 years but I know you're still active here. Just wanted to say I had this exact problem on my fresh rebuild and it took me weeks to figure out why. This post made me realize the issue. My new wiring pigtail connectors would push out the back of the connector anytime I plugged it in, but it looked fine when I took it off. I didn't realize what was happening until a pin slipped backwards when I tried to plug a noid light in. Thanks!!
