Unhappy Running on one rotor?!

Ack, leaving the house today my '83 started bogging horrendously. Turns out the motor is only running on the front (#1) rotor. The first thing I did was start yanking plug wires to determine this, and then yanking plugs and looking for spark (after determining it was the rear). The plugs have a very dark tan look to them, and the lower plug on the rear was had a nice smudge on it but this may have been due to riding around nonfunctioning. The only other test I've had time to do is to check the ohm's on the coils, and they check out ok. The car is carbuerated, so I presume that any fuel problem would affect both rotors, so to me this rules out the problem being fuel related. I'm still not %100 confident in the plug situation, though the car does have new wires and dist. cap etc etc. And from what I can tell this doesn't seem like a apex seal situation 'cause the rotor is completely kaput, not partially. Yanking the #2 rotor plug wires effects no change on the running of the motor. Anyone have a notion as to where I should poke at next?

ok but do you have spark on that rotor?

Anyhow best suggestion would be to do a compression test. Rule out a blown motor first. Then proceed.

take care.

Check for spark first, I would get that out of the way.

Bad *** I don't think its that coaster valve thingy 'cause its just the rear rotor that is not firing -unless that valve specifically forks with the two rear throttle bodies on the carb. Ick.

For sure tomorrow I will be doing a real job of looking into the problem, just had no time tonight.

So yeah, I hope to gods the rear rotor housing seal didn't pop. There are no gaseous histrionics or anything, so I don't think its that. So wierd. WIERD I SAY.

This is what I get for buying a $1000 rx7.

Like a summer fling, it was fun for a month, but oh the regret!

Nothing short of a carb rebuild would fix my problem of running on one rotor.

83 doesnt have a coasting valve, it has a shutter valve , same principle... But yes the shutter valve is an evil nasty valve for emssions, it cut off ALL fuel/air mixture from the rear rotor...

After reading up on this little widget I wonder does it need to be there? What real bad could possibly happen if it wasnt on?

You can just disconect the vacume hose to i, and plug it off. I had the same problem and this fixed it. the electrtical part is the middle yellow plug just follow the vacume lines from there.

Well, I ended up un-plugging the device and stopping up the vacuum line per your advice 851 -car runs better than it used to now. Thanks guys!
