Running a little rich...
So, my cars running rich and my tach died. Now, running rich takes on a whole new meaning when I decide to clean the plugs of by taking it up to about 8000 rpms and we start getting 3ft steady flames at 60 mph. Yeah, my friend who was following me didn't like that surprise from my tail pipe, and needless to say I didn't get the greatest milage on the trip to the shop. Now it's parked at the shop and I can start tearing into it to figure this out. It's got to be a very rich tune on the carbs combined with a failed trailing ignition..... but I'm not sure until I start looking at it more indepth.
Don't worry, I'm going to try to get some pics of the flames this weekend before I fix it

flames kick ***!
the afm screw is on the center of the carb really low towards the mani. i forget which way leans it out. methinks right-lean left-rich.
running on no trailing ignition might cause flaming. seing as how ur tach died too that might prove to be the problem since the tach runs off the trailing ignitor

Yeah, I checked the wires and they looked good for the trailing and on the back of the tach in the dash, but I didn't have a volt meter handy to do any real testing. Tomarrow I will dig into it and see if I'm getting anything from the trailing.
Thanks for the info on the AF screw, I was going to start looking for it tomarrow

Oh snap, I was thinking carb. Have you ever had your injectors sent out for service? How many miles on them? The SEs run a bit rich anyway and with a straight through exhaust, flames can be produced on command, but your's bit are more than usual.
I would start with freshening up the injectors. Then go through the trouble shooting section in the FSM once they are installed.
