rude ignitionpics

if youve read ssome of my other post ive been screwing around with my ign alot i have 3 different systems mocked up for quick swapp out , this is what im running now, gutted factory ignitors with jumpers , triple shielded pickup leads made from abs wheelspeed wiring, 3 foot long for mounting flexibility, mainly cause the finished product hasnt come tomind yet, 2 gm hei modules and cond assys, mounted in a cut down gm computer box, i have heat sinks for it too, msd blaster 2 coil on leads and factorie trails, works better and is more reliable so far then the dis systems ive messed with, idles good too, i wired around the factorie harness straght to the tach from the leading coil , tack is dead acurrate , and a lot faster responding , also no twitche needle when cold or electricly stressed like before, its crude looking but fhe finished productr will be much neeter, heres pic thanks for looking

Cool, so is this gonna be a direct fire leading ignition? Or jsut using the HEI's to replce the Mazda igniters?

It looks like two GM HEI ignitors and two blaster coils for leading. The trailing is stock. Am I right?

one module each for l and t, and a blaster2 for lead coil and stock trail, i have a dankus direct fire set up , and a a3coil 3 pickup 3 module dlifs set up , this set up PERFORM better than either direct fire set up, the big problem , was the tach it was sluggish and inaccurite and twicthy. now i have it wire from cluster to lead coil, and i had a problem dealing with the missing wires in cap with direct fire, it just looked ghetto, i was going to go back to mazda ignitors but those15 dollar wells hei modules produce a much longer and stronger primary signal, even remote mounted with 3 foot leads between pu/coils and modules, tach is litening fast and dead om acurate.

So why not have 3 HEI modules? 2 for leading (doing the direct fire thing) and one for trailing? I would think that a hotter spark would be achived from 2 modules, rather than splitting one module to go to 2 coils? Thats always been my beef with direct fire. And some preliminary testing sems to prove that to me (but not HEI, but MSD's).

carl, i couldnt see a noticeable difference in the sparklines on the scope between the hei/msd set up running through the cap and wires and both direct firesystems, the 3 on 3 set up was 2nd, and the wastespark dis system was worst, the hei/msd set up is noticably less hashey than the others on the firing line, so for less complexity and clutter im sticking with this. just have to pemanentize (new dankusword!) the install and hard wire it. did you happen to notice the gm cs series 130 amp alt? 30 minutes 30 dollars, Quallify?

Interesting. I've personally never felt any improvement from direct/wasted spark setups. And my lap times didnt reflect that either when we were testing it. But hey, WTF do I know, I'm just another tinkerer like you. Go figure.

the impetus behind all this was the putter during warm up, im in house listening to that 5'' tip and no cats any little miss is obvious, i cured the warm idle putter with the ign and no skippy during hard decel and accel, the warming up/ 2k putter was choke flap adjustment, it wanted less. never overlook the obvvvvvious

yep day before yesterday i was warming it up at 2k and it was prrrrrrrrrrrblbrrrrrrrrrrrrrlbrrrrrrblbblrrrrr. i hate that.drives me batty! i stuck my finger down and manipulated the choke flap and closing it just a fraction cleared it rite up , it was a lean miss i guess, the 4 gas is useless with no cats, much improved though
