rough running

While changing the steering gear box on my 85 gsl-se I must have knocked something loose or disconnected something. The car will start and idle but runs rough as the rpm increase. If I disconnect the electrical connection to the orange colored solenoid on the upper left side of the engine it will accelerate normally.
However it will not start with this unplugged. Any ideas?

That is the FPCS or Fuel pressure control solenoid.
Before you go start diagnosing whether it is operating correctly check your fuseable links near the driverside shock tower.
Start the engine and wiggle both of the 2 top links and see if the engine wants to die or starts to run correctly. If it does one of the fuseable links is bad. Probably the 2nd from the top.
