Rough Running
Rough Running
Well ive been driving my 84 gsl for a couple of weeks now, just had the carb rebuilt, new starter put in ect.... My problem is when i warm it up and get on it, itll get to about 4500-5000 rpm and it feels like you "hit a brick wall" if you will, its making all the noise it should but its not going any where. Im thinkin its the plugs and wires.....any suggestions
clutch slipage at those RPMs... but i don't know that much about cars... i did have a truck that i wore the clutch down to the metal and it did that... if i took it easy it was fine... but if i pushed the gas to much then the RPMs just went up and car slowed down. That about the only thing that i could think of .. sorry not much help.
i agree with kentetsu i would first check the fuel system. the filter should be changed and u can also check the flow of the pump. and timing is an easy check if u have the light. check all that first before u go to the carb again.
what about the secondaries?
When i rebuilt my carb i mistakenly installed the gasket between the venturi body and the vavle body upside down.. it is ALMOST PERFECTLY symmetrical save for a little flange on the gasket that seals the vaccum inside a channel for the secondary actuator.
it was SOO easy to screw up, especially at 4am.
heres how to check if someone did this to your carb:
undo the secondary Vaccum Solenoid (three screws, on the front side of the carb.)
using carb cleaner with the little plastic hose they all come with (and we all lose before we get home) squirt a little cleaner into the nipple on the venturi body. if the gasket was incorrectly installed, cleaner will leak out the joint between the venturi body and the valve body on THE OUTSIDE of the carb, right near where the actuator is.
this "no secondaries" crap made the car feel like that "brick wall" thing... oh yeah, and it saved a helluva lot of gas too.

if you need pics of my stuff let me know, i got a spare carb apart for refrence (cause ive had to get jiggy with mine thrice after rebuilding it. at least the exaust doent make cops drop coffe in their laps anymore)
