ROTARYSHACK TII 1st gen Resurrection

Here are some pics of my 85 Gsl. I'd like to thanks Rob and his buddies from RotaryShack for their amazing work and generosity. And to think, It only took 2 weeks this time around. Also, let me know what you guys think about the wheels.

Cheers!

Tan, I think I deserve a ride in it since I gave you the 411 on that car in Tahoe I regret not getting it myself. I just found a gsl-se myself (FINALLY) so I'm beginning my turbo project.

Here's the only pics I have of my car

The paint on it is horrible but original no accidents.

BTW, do you have a better shot of the wheels, I can't tell what the center section looks like. They look great with the polished lip though.

No intercooler....Blow-off valve..... KEY elements of longevity that wouldn't cost too much to throw in there....

Overall very nice..

as far as no intercooler or bov goes, there at least 50 of these setups locally that dont have these key elements as you call them....(my white car being one of them)well i do contest your statement!!! some of these cars have been running years with almost no problems , other than excessive fuel consumption and an occasional speeding ticket!!!

remember!!!!most people are on a budget.....where you spend your hard earned $$$ is my main concern when building a turbo rotary on a budget......

i didnt say adding an intercooler wouldnt help(brcause they help the h/p gain alot) im saying its not a must when building a turbo car!

You're kidding. I thought the intercooler was like as necessary as a radiator for a N/A engine. So what do you do different if you're not running an intercooler? I.E. special ventilation, not drive as hard, less boost, etc.

Man, that totally sparks my interest now...

Intercooler is not necessary but it'll run better with one. You just need to make sure you cooling system is good before turbo'ing a car. If it's not, you'll find out really fast!!

usually you won't run as much boost. throttle response without an intercooler is the win! haha

Yes, You'll have quicker throttle response.

You can Race your Turbo 1st Gen, with No Intercooler,
against a similar prepared Turbo 1st Gen, with an Intercooler.

You can both punch it from a 2nd gear roll,

The Non-intercooled Turbo 1st Gen will move forward with the faster response, and less lag, pulling 5 whole inches on the other Turbo FB.

And then .245 seconds later...

The Turbo intercooled 1st Gen running more boost, with more power,
will blow by you like you're standing still.

Spoken from Experience...
I put a beating on a couple of Turbo FB's around here recently.

or just do what i did and mount the intercooler close so there's as little bit of piping as possible, but still where it can get plenty of air

The volume of air in the intercooler is the main contributor to the loss in throttle response. For low boost or high octane fuels, intercooling isn't a must, but hp will suffer a bit. Good intercooling is important if you are trying to maximize power at a given boost level, as well as allowing more boost without fear of detonation.
