Rotary Shack Muffler?

I was trolling ebay motors and found that Rotary Shack is making a "max power" muffler. I searched but was unable to come up with anything, so I was wondering if anyone's tried it? Results? Thoughts regardless?

oh yeah, here's the link

Cool to see something like this, but my only problems with it is the fact it requires fabrication to install. I have a welder and could fabricate, but I'd much prefer a bolt-on exhaust. Second, to go with a non-bolt on, it would have to be cheaper, and that piece is way over-priced for just the muffler.

I agree. I mean, it's cool, and seems well built, but I don't see why someone wouldn't go with say, a Magnaflow.

Looks like it. If they made the whole muffler, you would expect the tip to match. Considering you need to weld to use it anyway, why wouldn't you just buy a tip and the racing beat universal that its based on for $118. Sounds like rotary shack is trying to rip people off again, this time in a different manner. A "lobster dump" tip is not worth $168.

A word of warning to new members, Rotary Shack has a long history of shady dealings and are no longer welcome on Rx-7Club. Buy at your own risk.

I haven't had any personal dealings with them, so I'm glad you brought that up. The RB muffler looks choice, not to mention they have street cred.

I've had nothing but good dealings with Rotary Shack. I'm not familiar with RX-7club's problems with him, but Robert's only problem was with IB rather than RX-7club regarding vendor rates. Best I knew, he left on good terms only because he couldn't afford to stay a vendor. He wasn't terribly pleasant regarding the whole thing, but I never knew him to rip anyone off.

+1 vote for Robert.

Robert has been awesome to me as well, excellent pricing on items (prices that no one else could come close to) excellent person to talk to for technical support. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again.

It is almost impossible to find a lobster tip style muffler for these cars unless you order from rotaflo but when I priced one of their mufflers out it was around $800-900.

We are getting offtrack.

Crit: Not exactly true. There is a lot that goes on that most on here do not know about. We don't need to go into details here, but I will just say that there is more to it than this.

For dealing with Robert/RS, people can just search the GG/BG threads on here and make up their own mind. Some have had nothing but good dealings with RS, but there are also quite a few others who weren't so lucky.

Anyway...back to muffler talk.

Wow, that is a Racing Beat universal. Why spend 280 on a 118 dollar part with a dumpy style tip? Must be smokin that cheese again.

It looks kinda ok. I might do a dumpy or turn down tip on mine. At least one good thing came from this thread, other than saving people money.

Yeah, I'm planning on dumping as well. Talked to the RB people today and they said the universals are only a tad bit louder than the Power Pulse mufflers that are made for our cars. I don't see any reason why someone would pay twice as much when RB tech is already proven.

Like I said before, I'll bet $100 that the ebay one is a racing beat with a tip welded on.

RB just needs to sell their universal mufflers as a bolt on item. They'd sell.

From a cost perspective it really wouldn't be worth it in the sense that adding the piping and flange to make it bolt on would bring the cost up to probably to the point where you might as well go for the Power Pulse muffler already designed to fit the car anyway. IMHO

Universal muffler is straight through correct? It would flow better probably freeing up 2-3 more horsepower, plus it would give the 12a a little more of a ballsy sound, and a different look. I would gladly pay $2-300 for a top end quality bolt on straight through muffler specifically designed for my car. As opposed to the chambered Power Pulse that has remained unchanged for 25 years? Well... They made the tips shinier and straight cut instead of at an angle as back in the day.

I have a Power Pulse. It's a great looking muffler, sounds much better than the tinny stock one did, and sounds much better then the fart can the car came with (yikes!). I just think we as a people (rotor heads) deserve more options for bolt on mufflers that will last 20 years on our cars.

Now if Rotary Shack is reading this...

I would gladly pay $300 shipped to my door if you honestly came forward and said... "This is a Racing Beat universal muffler with a custom flange and hangers to fit your 79-80, 81-83, 81-85 etc. with a stainless steel dumpy tip welded to it". I know it doesn't have the flanges or hangers, but if it did you would have a marketable product. If you were honest about it being a modified RB muffler people would be cool with that.

Just an FYI. Sgt. Fox, your statement earlier is 100% slander and you could be sued over it. You cannot publicly bash a company and risk costing it business. All your allowed to do is publish your experiances with said business. On that note if my exhaust wasn't complete I'd run that. Rotary shack has been nothing but great to me. Awesome prices especially when you consider how much of a nitch market he's opperating in.

/\ You mean Libel not slander... also if people wan't to know about Rotary Shack they can search, I had only one dealing with them and it was great no problems. This thread is about the muffler.

i'm with you NCross, about the hangers. If I have to do a lot of modifications to make a $300 muffler fit I would just piece together a mangaflow or borla at half the cost.

um, no, allow me to help you out on this one.

Slander and libel can only be attributed to something when it is FALSE. Take a look though the many threads regarding Rotary Shack in the feedback section. To make a statement that RS is not allowed to conduct business on this forum is NOT slander or libel, it is FACT. In other words, let's not turn this into a pissing contest with Rob's friends trying to vouch for him. He was kicked off of the forum, and his company is not allowed to sell here, and it isnt because they left on good terms. Hell, just this past week I had another person PM me asking about how they can contact Rob, because they bought from him on another forum and he still hasnt sent their parts. I was personally involved to the point of communicating directly with Rob myself, and each time he tried to tell me his side of things, it changed. He couldnt keep his own story straight. And I dont have an axe to grind with him, so it isnt like I am making this up. If any of you RS fans dont believe this, go to the GG/BG section and take yourself an honest look through the threads. See for yourself all of the times when Rob contradicted his own stories.

For those of you that think this thread is only about a muffler, I dont think so. When anyone asks for any thoughts or opinions about a company's product, anything regarding that company's integrity or lack thereof is completely relevant. For those of you that support Rob, if you had a bad sale with a company, and you came upon a thread asking about their products, would you speak up? OF COURSE you would. So let's stop pretending that this isnt relevant. We see that kind of response all the time in here, and none of you care about it any other time. Its only when the guy's your friend that you suddenly think its wrong to speak up about it.

I will close with this--and it has already been said before--Rotary Shack is not allowed to sell on this forum in any capacity. Should any of you choose to do business with them, you do so at your own risk. It's really sad when people dont take that advice, then do business with him, then come asking us moderators to help them get their parts. But I guess thats what happens when a guy runs an unlicensed and illegal shop. And no, that isnt libel either. I did the searches myself personally--and found no business license for him or his business in any jurisdiction.
