Rotary Rebuild Observations
I accidentally put this in the "parts for sale" section...sorry for the double post...is there a "proper" way to move threads?
Just a few observations about rebuilding a rotary engine. I haven't put it back together yet, but after tearing it down, cleaning it thoroughly, and watching the RotaryAviation rebuild video several times, I have to say this isn't that tough. Good organization, VERY thorough cleaning, and attention to detail seem to be the keys, but that isn't any different than rebuilding a boinger. In many ways I think it's a lot easier. When I started this project I was asked (on this forum) "what are you thinking? Rebuilding a rotary is not for a rookie". Well, I have to say, anyone with a fair amount of mechanical apptitude, organization skills, patience, and a little money can do it.
Like I said, I haven't put it back together yet, so maybe there are some surprises ahead of me...we'll see.

I started with a 12A and found that the rotor housings are trash. So now I'm working on the extra 13B I got with the car. The video (I got mine from RotaryAviation...it's different than the one from Atkins, but I've heard it is quite good also) can be used for the 12A. There are only minor differences in the procedures, and of course some of the tolerances you'll need to look up in the manual instead of relying on those stated in the video.
