Bet it's an RX-4. Had one as a company car back in the late 70's. I remember it would really move, and BACKFIRE like a ****!
Wierd fleet of company cars at that place, an RX-4, Dodge Colt (with on headlight busted, someone put a piece of wood in it's place with a drawing of a bloodshot eye) and a AMC Gremlin!

Nobody wanted to drive the colt, as I recall....

It could be an RX3 or RX4 wagon. There were no RX2 wagons that I'm aware of, at least if there were they weren't imported into the US. My first rotary *** whoopin' was at the hands of an RX4 wagon when I was in my BMW Bavaria. The guy punched it going up a two-lane highway onramp and after belching out a huge cloud of smoke, he just blew by me. I caught him on the first big sweeper, though. That BMW had Bilstein struts and Koni shocks and would corner pretty well.

I'm always keeping my eye out for a rotary wagon. They were neat, and had great commercials.

Yeah they were quick. When I was a youngster I had a Cosmo and my buddy had an RX-4 sedan. The RX-4 would kick my Cosmo's a$$ big time! We think it may have been ported but we weren't sure.

The '74-'75 4-port 13Bs that came in the RX4s had the largest stock ports. In '76 the intake porting was more restrictive as a response to the fabled "energy crisis" of the time. I'm not sure when the Cosmo (RX5) was introduced, but if it was in '76 it would have had the smaller ports, plus those Cosmos were heavier. My '76 RX4 coupe had a '74 motor installed and would eat 5.0 Mustangs for lunch.

also, just an aside ... as onepointone inadvertently pointed out ... it may not be a MAZDA wagon at all. I've seen rotaries in Toyota, Datsun and Ford station wagons so far ...

On another side note: I just hit the magic 1308

Maybe they had 10A motors in Aussie RX3s, (although I doubt it) but here in the US they all had 12As. And the single distributor motors weren't introduced until 1974.

You doubt it? I didn't know the US models were all 12A but the Series 1 Rx-3's in OZ had the 10A engine. The Series 2 came out here in 1974 hence the single dizzy 12A.

Okay, so I don't doubt it any more.
Well, maybe a little...

All I can do is laugh. The only reason I could see to EVER make a high-powered station wagon is as a joke. Exactly HOW much hash was Mazda on when they made this?

Rotary wagons, particularly RX-3s (I should say rotorised 808s (dunno what you guys called 'em) as real RX-3 wagons are pretty rare, if we got them at all) are pretty common here in Oz. I think in the US a wagon has a different image to in Oz, more of a 'family' car where in Oz, older wagons have a bit of a reputation as being something to throw a matress in the back of (if you know what I mean )

This is just about the badest, circuit racing RX-3 wagon going around.

He hasn't broken his front suspension, that's how much camber he runs!

I may as well plug fullboost while I'm here. It's an Australian motorsports (mainly drag racing) site. They always have fantastic photos!

Nope, you are mistaken. The SPs sold in the US had a 12A, although the porting configuration was different. The SPs also used a different rearend gear ratio.
