ringing sound.. WTF?
Anybody have any idea what would cause a high pich "ringing" to come from my engine ? My tach dosent work right now, but around the top half of my rpm range in the first 3 gears, this sound comes out. I really cant describe it, but its close to a glass bell ringing. Not like ding ding ding, but a consatnt daaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing-shift. hard for me to describe. Dosent sound like a threatning sound, but Im really courious about it.
Anybody heard this before?

Hey there. I had a ringing sound on mine for a while. It came on every time I turned the fan on for the climate controls. Unfortunately, last week, my fan stopped working, so now I have no heat and it's really cold to drive around in my car. On the bright side, the ringing doesn't happen any more either, but brrrrr. I wouldn't mind having it back

Sounds like a bearing is going. What bearing? I'd start with the pilot bearing and work my way back.
Or it could simply be a belt or a dry pully bearing. Some noises, like belt and pully bearings, can also happen in spicific gears due to how engine load affects the componet.
(I can't spell worth a damn)

Betcha it's the alternator. My Alt started making really high pitched ringing sounds a couple of weeks before it decided to freeze up. Really high pitched (just like glass bells - like you said) and sometimes hard to hear. WTF? I thought. Then the alt froze on the highway and I had to cut the belt. Ringing noise stopped. Replaced the alt - no noise.

It sounds like a bearing. When they're ready to let loose, they'll squeel like crazy. My engine bay has this ru tu tu tu tu tu tu tu sound. I'm thinking that it's either the belts or the alternator. I'm leaning more towards the alternator, since that's original.
