Unhappy REX idling at dangerously low RPMs (pls help)

guys i didnt start my rex for like 2 days...

and when i started her .. it was pretty hard.. well not that hard like cranking for 5-10 seconds..

more like cranking for 3 seconds then i can hear its not starting so i let go.. and try again.. i pump her twice.. and start 3 seconds.. and i can hear shes not starting so i turn it off and try again..

i repeated this 3 times until she started..

everything sounded fine.. i left it at fulll choke.. warming her up..
then finally it goes down..

i check the RPM and its like bouncing from 0!!

i was like ****

and i can hear it too... its like about to die or something..

usually my car idles pretty low.. like just above 0.. i thought maybe its just the tacho thats stuffed up... but today it was really low and i can hear and feel it..vibrating

its low on gas .. does this have anything to do with it?

anyways.. im the newbie guy who is waiting for his license so he just starts it every second day to maintain the engines goodility.. (sorry im not very articulate)

raise the idle speed a little, like to 700 and see if it smooths out.

Do yourself a big favor and buy a Haynes manual. It's cheap and explains all about how to adjust your idle.

Here's one on eBay, quick, Buy It now for a whole 9 bucks.

Good luck!

I bought mine for $2.25
What year do you have? The FB adjustments for the carb are near the end of the Haynes manual.

the low idle could be due to carbon build up from not being driven the cats could eaisly be clogged.

Had the same problem once. Ran fine, then wouldn't idle worth a damn one morning. Turned out to be crud in the idle jet. Try taking out both the idle speed screw and the air screw after turning them all the way in and noting their positions, and squirt some carb cleaner right in the holes. Then reinstall the two screws in their proper positions. If the problem persists, I'd start looking for a possible vacuum leak.

the idle could be low beacause of temperture change too... or humidity.

Make yourself a 3-ring binder like mine...

And when you find threads that tell you how to do this or that, print them out and put'em in your binder for future ref. That's what I do. Threads disappear but your hardcopy won't

How long 'til you get that license?
