Thumbs up Restoration almost complete.. what do you think??

Hey guys, finally got it painted and the wheels re-finished. I have a little bit of head-liner work to do and it'll be all ready for Indianapolis.

Whatcha think???

I can round up some interrior pics if anyone is interested...

Both door seals are new (yeah, bit the bullet and paid Mazdatrix's price). The seals on the door that the window slides through are also new, but the remaining window seals are original and are in pretty good shape.

Thanks for the nice words!

That looks like a really nice paint job. But is it a factory color?

Thanks for the nice comments!

It is the original dash. It's been Garage kept most of its life, which I'm sure helps. Other than about 3 years (long story ), its been in my possesion since it was new in late 82.

The seats are are original RX-7 seats (fake leather), but not the ones that came on the car. The originals were pretty warn out and I got a good deal on these. These had a couple of sections of 'leather' that needed replacing. Never thought I would learn the skill of sewing as part of retoring a car, but I got pretty good at it.. lots of band-aids tho! The original seats had the head rest that slid up and down.. was that part of a particular trim package? or are these new ones from a different year?

The paint job was about $2000, which included a LOT of door-ding filling. He also sanded down and re-painted all of the trim around the windshield and door windows (the black parts). Im not sure I have these in the right order, but he sanded the whole thing, filled, sealed, primed, base coat, clear coat. I'm assuming there was some in-between sanding as well. As far as color, its supposedly the original color. He says he can look up the original mazda color (sunbeam silver?). Since he didn't paint the engine compartment, there is a very slight difference betweent the original paint and the new, but I'm sure 21 years will cause it to change a bit.

Nothing like a new looking 1st gen. It's like a time machine back to the 80's.

I love it. You should keep the car 100% stock. Good job by the way.

dude: replace that stering wheel w/ a 3 spoke GT you can get at Pep Boys for like $50 (I have oneon a Ferrari). Will add 25 hp instantly! & find leather **** to match (+10 hp). Otherwise looks like a nice job you have done.

That is REALLY nice! My 85GSL will be about like that (same color, too) when I get various bits cleaned up this summer. The blue 83GS will also be completed.

Nice clean stock FBs are very handsome.
