research on muffler

Ok guys I've done some research on these fart can mufflers you guys like to call it. I've found a company that makes a muffler with steel woool packing. It's made by a company called "weapon-r". I'm going to get my muffler through them. I forgot about them. I bought my intake for my honda through them. But hey they pack they're mufflers with steel wool so I'll give it a try. Plus now I'll probably have a warrenty. And leave me a lone about racing beat I'm strapped on cash and can't afford it and I need a muffler now.

So you decided to get a fart can huh? The only problem I have with them is that stupid rice kids put them on their automatic civics, and they don't do research. They go down to the local checker auto parts and pay $20 for one. Those four banger honda engines sound like crap, there is no reason to amplify the sound. Good luck, and I hope it stands up to the heat of a rotary. Atleast a rotary sounds good!

Well like the old saying goes.................. the sweetness of low price fades while the bitterness of low quality endures, or something like that. Save your $. I been down that road Chris. I know its not cheap, but the RB streetport system is what you need on that car. Keep an eye out for a used one and in the meantime **** $ away on more fart cans that will die a quick death. Or save some $ and buy it new. Thats what wil last on your car. Trust me I been there. Ive spent more $ building my own systems over the years that crapped out.

That thing you are looking at will be tacky loud & burn up in no time. Once took my 7 to a v8 race car shop & had a system built. W/ 2 turbo muflers & 2 glass packs it was ear-splitting loud. Tried another brand w/ 4 turbo mufflers & was cheap sounding loud. Ended up trashing everything & getting RB.

Is their a bone yard near you that you can pick up a used one for dirt cheap for now, then save up for a better one. Hell i'd send you one off my 83 parts car for the cost of shipping. rx7doctor

Before I got my 84&85 RX7 GLS-SE I had a 96 Honda Prelude and a 87,88 Conquest TSI. I have Weapon R mufflers on all 3 along with their Dragon cold air intakes and they sound great and boost up the horsepower. Weapon R will work great until you can get another muffler. I have a Bonez dual tip muffler on my 84 that I am getting ready to take off and put on a Pacesetter/Monza Exhaust. You can have the Bonez if you pay the shipping. Good luck , GAry

No, its a stock factory muffler, just trying to save you some money so you can
eventually get the rb one. Have one on my se which is down for the winter, i may
consider selling it, will get back to you tommorow if interested, difficult to think of a
fair price for a used rb muffler. Like i said the stock one i would just want the cost of shipping. Maybe some of the guys would give their input as far as a fair price for a used rb one. rx7doctor

Check out the magnaflow website and www.hottexhaust.com. You can get a high quality Magnaflow muffler with a LIFETIME warranty for $100 bucks US. I've got one and it works great. It's loud, but a good sounding loud.

I wouldn't waste your time with the Weapon R muffler. Lots of guys on this board use Magnaflows, and I haven't heard anything negative. I certainly recommend them.

I got the 14220 muffler from this page for $100 US.

Do they have any claim as to hp gains such as the test results form racing beat?
I hade used on on my 79 camaro when i was restoring it sounded excellent. The good thing abount the rb system they have taken away the tinny sound. Does the magnaflow give it a deep throatry sound, without being blown out of the car. rx7doctor

I have a MagnaFlow 6" round racing muffler.

I added a 24" MagnaFlow MagnaPack to quite it down, 4 months ago. Cost $100 installed. Made big difference, got the wooshing sound, and loved it but still its fiberglass packing and it only lasted me about 3 months. Now it sounds the same as it did before.

Does MangnaFlow make another silencer with something other than fiberglass?

Or does anyone know of an exhaust packing that can take the 1650 degrees plus that out rotaries through out?

I'm thinking of looking into aerospace silencing devices next.

A few years ago,i looked at truck silencers. Most of them have steel wool inside, and they make them long enough to be able to quiet down a Rotary.

Maybe consider them?

Drive down to LA. I will have you test my FB with magnaflow and my buddy's FB with RB set up. Both cars have similar set up. You can be the judge on which one flows better.

BTW: you have to bring something for the bbq. I will cover the beer for moderate drinkers.

Most of the HP gains from the full RB system is due to their header and presilencer. Any free-flowing muffler will offer similar HP gains as I understand it. If anything the Magnaflow will be better for power because it's a straight through design, whereas the RB muffler is chambered.

Here's an audio clip and three video clips of my car with the RB single outlet header, mini presilencer and a single in/dual out Magnaflow. I think it sounds great, but a little on the loud side.

Ok, so enough advice from me. Put it on & let us know how it sounds! I'm sure it will be fine while you save up for something more permanent.
