Replacing center dash vents?

I went to adjust my left side dash vent today...and I guess the 23 years of sitting unmolested got to it. A bunch of the blades cracked right off. Oddly enough my other one is fine.

How hard are these to replace? I fished the remains of mine out of the hole, but it looks so odd without anything in there.

Black, from an '83. The rest of the interior is red, but all the vents are black.

Were they painted. or did they come from and earlier interior? I have S3 vents, which did not come in black.

They were black from the factory. Isn't 1983 an S2? This is my interior:

Can't help with this one. The only S2 I've had, the po painted all the vents white. Dash got tossed.

I still need to figure out how to do this. Is it possible without removing the dash pad?

I will look at my extra dash and see how they come out. Wont get to look until sometime tomorrow morning though. I am pretty sure the round ones just pop in and out but not sure about the square ones.

you will have to pull the dash pad off. There's 4 screws that hold it down from the back side, one on each corner. They are stubby philips screws.

You have to remove the dash pad atleast to get to the vents. It isn't the easiest job,but with patience it is aybe an afternoon.I will get back to you on the question about seperating mine from my dash I have for sale.
