bump.

this project got put on semi-hold as i was occupied with school stuffs.

part of the reason i decided to replace all of this was one of my rear brake pads was loose completely. i cannot find rear disc brake hardware kits anywhere but mazdatrix, again, for $40. which is stupid for a spring and some tiny tin clips i could most likely cut out of a coke can.

anyway, napa, autozzone, etc. have nothing listed for rear disc brake hardware. so im wondering if yall know of another model that used the same calipers and all, or something else that would work.

thanks,
Nick

thanks, i have a caliper rebuild kit. im wondering about the disc brake hardware kits.

these consist of new anti-rattle springs, shims, and clips to hold the pads in.

Should have given more specifics, for whatever reason they don't have it listed under your year 1981, but if you look it up under 1984 (or 85 presumably) it does. The rear brakes on a GSL are the same for 81-85 so it would work fine.

are the rear GSL calipers the same as the 84/85 GSL-SE? becuase they only have rear hardware kits listed for the 13b engine. i checked the other day. i assumed they were different. i know the rotors and pads are different.

Hmm, damn you're right, even though I chose the 12a the result is for a SE, didn't notice that on the second line of the description...
To be honest it's been a while since I worked on an SE, so I can't say if they are the same or not. I can't see why they'd be that much different though, maybe someone can confirm. I agree $40+ is a kinda absurd for some clips...

if there were its something even more obscure than the FB. the rx7 was the only car mazda sold with rear discs until 86 i think, maybe 88. even the rx7 rear discs change to the gsl-se style and then stay that way up thru 2003

i believe its a mitubishi caliper, but good luck finding an 80's mitsu, those things were JUNK. every one i can remember just trailed blue smoke, even back in the 80s!

I had that problem for the longest time(brake rattle, from no clips). I finally rebuilt both calipers and loaded the pads up with the tacky stuff from autozone all along metal contact points and where the clips should have gone. It wasn't pretty but the car seems brand new to me!
