sounds like the starter. you might try push/pull starting it, just to see if it runs. oh and make double sure that the battery connections are tight/good

i recommend a Mazda starter, they are rebuilt properly, the parts store ones usually aren't

One of the main grounds from the battery connects to the rear housing down by the starter. I would just double check to see that it is secure and not corroded.

Unlikely its a points issue. There is some psudo-magical bit of japaneese relay wizardy in there some place, but I couldnt figure it out. I just ran a new wires to a push button start switch, issue solved. Of course this was after a new battery, starter, ground wires and 16 hours with my multi meter.

I would pull the starter out and take over to a shop to be tested.

It sounds like you have a drain on your electrical system somewhere. After testing the starter I would try isolation the electrical system. I know there is a good write up somewhere on the boards about hunting down an electrical short. Try doing a search for "dead battery". When I get some time tomorrow I will see if I can find it. It just involves disconnection the electrical system and then one by one plugging things back in until you see a drain on the battery. Good luck.

Oh and to push start the car you put it in gear, hold the clutch in. With the clutch held in and the car in gear push the car. With the key on, get it up to a fast walk speed then drop (release quickly) the clutch. The car should start. Maybe try youtube for a video if my directions are not clear enough. This will let you know if the issue is just the starter.

What is your battery voltage at?

Necessity is the mother of invention, or in your case the motivation to learn wiring :-)
