Replaced Fan Clutch on FB, Much Quieter!

I have an 81 FB w/ 53K miles, OE fan clutch spun easily with a bit of resistance cold, could be stopped with a gloved hand when running & hot, but would intermittently seem to lock up and make a helluva roaring air/fan noise when driving. Not a pleasant engine sound, an annoying air movement roar. Was hard to hear the engine over the fan roar.

Finally bit the bullet & bought a new fan clutch & replaced it, wow, what a nice difference! Now it sounds like a rotary engine & not a Shop Vac.

If you have the same symptoms, do yourself a favor & change it out, you'll be a happier rotary driver as a result.

Good to hear you fix the issue. I also had a bad fan clutch. I finally got it replaced and it sounds so much better. My old fan clutch would squeal around 3k rmp it was annoy.

That's what I thought at first too, but after replacing the fan clutch that noise stopped. I'll check the belts (previous owner installed dual pulley's).

Overheating

Victory!

I was able to 'drive' her home from the doctor today. NO overheating.

All said thermostat, water pump, radiator and fan clutch replaced.

Not a peep from the coolant system the entire way home. Thanks too all who provided comment.

That oil 🛢 though. Now IT wants to ride high when I'm above 45 and in and out of 3rd and 4th.

Any thoughts on that?

any particular reason why u posted this in a 7 yr old thread instead of in one of several threads u have going on this issue? keep in mind that random posting makes it difficult for others to find when searching the forum.

Doing it on the move with my phone.

I thought it was the ongoing conversation.

I'll do better.

Thanks for letting me know.
