Replaced battery cables them killed starter!
Replaced battery cables them killed starter!
Ok here's the story. I finally got around to replacing those old battery cables and everything seemed fine for about two day.
Then my starter started acting up and taking forever to start the car.
Now the only thing it does is make like a grinding noise when you try to start it.
Smoke also comes from it.
I'm wondering whether its just bad which is obvious but if replacing the battery cables had something to do with it.
Could I have done something wrong?
Thanks for any help.

When in doubt go back and check the work that you just did!
Is the cable tight at the starter?
Is the small wire that energizes the solenoid at the starter secure.
Is the ground cable tight where you bolted it back to the engine block?
Did you clean the battery posts and make sure you tightened the cables properly?
Did you have this issue before you replaced the cables?
Are the bolts tight that attach the starter to the bell housing?
If all is yes to the above then take the starter out and go down to the local Auto parts store like Napa or Checker Auto or Auto Zone and have them test it!

Are you assuming that everything is clean and secure? Or have you crawled under there and inspected it again since you started having issues? Sure sounds like a loose connection at the starter or battery....
