Repairing Tranny Synchro's

My '83 GSL doesn't like being shifted into second if the RPM's are up. If you shift easy it works fine. I suspect that a lot of the 197K miles involved shifting at a good clip! Has anyone had the gears out of the tranny to fix it? What tranny's will work in an FB. The clutch is the same as a Ford Ranger, maybe a Ranger tranny? Thanks!

I would stick with what you have, just put new syncro rings and shifter forks if needed. If you go and get another tranny, not knowing milage or anything, you may need it rebuilt in a couple thousand miles??? Just put a couple hundred in what you have and not have to worry about fitting a diff. one in. my .02

Anyone know where to get a kit containing synchros, bearings, and seals needed for a general tranny overhaul? I got a place that'll do the labor for $400 plus parts, or $400 if I supply parts.

I tore my tranny apart and just went over everything.....bearings, syncros, shifter forks. etc...

I ordered everything through Mazda Comp. .......I think it was like $200 for everything and I mean everything!

What kind of manual did you use? All I have so far is the parts diagram.

I believe that you need a press to do some of the work... not sure exactly. I know that parts are relatively cheap. Any one on the forum offer rebuilt transmissons?
