Repainting rusted rims

My stock 13" steel painted rims have been slowly rusting over the years of sitting in my garage. It's just surface rust, and it's not that bad, but I want to take the car to a show or two this year so I need to repaint the wheels. What is the best way of doing this myself? Sandblasting and repainting came to mind first, but if anyone had any other ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

sandblast them...well you'd want to actually glass bead them that way you'd get a better job...then have them powder coated or find somewhere that could refinish the surface in chrome...

Haha...chrome on my POS stock steelies...that might make for an interesting look (rice, anyone?). Thanks for the tips on sandblasting/beadblasting tho, big help. I do think powdercoating would be sweet.

Blast and powdercoat would be your best bet. Satin Black powdercoat with a chrome lip. LOL, that'd be sweet as the dickens.

My car's in storage right now for the winter. I may go get it this weekend, if I do and and I remember to take some photos, I'll post them. This photo isn't of my car, but they are sort of like these (although not really). They truely are heinous rims, makes me wonder what the hell Mazda was thinking back in the day...Chrome lip would be kinda cool tho.

Sandblast and powdercoat, or a good single stage urethane paint. If they are badly pitted neither the powdercoat nor the paint will hide all of it. If you want to hide that, then body putty and paint is the best route.

If you are interested, I can do either, PM me. If you decide to go with the + wheels, I have some of those too.

I just wanted to make sure you were really talking about steel wheels. I have an S and it came with the steel wheels. I just put the aluminum ones on not too long ago
