RENESIS Rotary Engine...
Hey guys I am wondering how much would you think it would cost to get a Renesis engine from a Mazda Dealership? Also if say I had the money to pick one up. What other stuff would I need in order to complete a set up on a FB? A Renesis swap.
I know I ask to many questions the thing is all the projects I would like to do would cost me an arm and a leg so I figure if I am going to spend already alot of money why not go to the extreme? hehe

to my understanding they are pretty pricey from the dealer and it still leaves you alot to come up with on your own...........harness,exhaust,ecu,etc.
ive looked into this a little and came up with the best thing to do is get a totalled rx8, this way you get everything you need and then some.
another thing that will be pain is the throttle, the rx8 is fly by wire. you can either swap another(cable driven) throttle body on or adapt the rx8 pedal and entire wiring harness(which you can get from a salvage car).
it would take some time and effort to do it but i feel it would be worth it.
buying a wrecked rx8 will also give you the options of keeping the stock computer or going with a stand alone(again not sure if the fly-by-wire will be compatible, but im sure it runs thru the stock ecu),going with the 6 speed tranny, switching to the rx8 seats, and possibly swaping to the rx8 cluster(ive been wanting to try that cause it looks bitchin)or you could sell of the spare parts to help with the project.
another big hurdle you are going to have is the engine mounting i have no clue if the front plate will fit from an older engine so you'll have to fab it.
as far as prices on the wrecked 8's ive seen them selling for around 7k-10k,which you will come out better this way.

Hmmm. This isn't the first time this was pondered. As a matter of fact, someone had a project going already about a year or so ago, and was NEAR completion. He injured himself though, and the project was sold.
I wonder what ever became of that? I remember he had to do THOUSANDS of dollars in custom work just to get that sucker in there, so it's very pricey.
As it stands right now, it would probably cost just as much to put a RENESIS in as it would to put a 20 B in.

hey skrewloose78, thanks for the info
Hey jays83gsl, true that how much is the cost of a 20B? Also a Rx8 Engine Vs a 20B Engine different in power?
I think going to the new engine would still be more worth it as is updated and it have a better mpg. However I am just thinking to see what kind of project I want to trow in the near future. I am already thinking of 10K around for a nice project. I know I could get a 3rd gen if someone is thinking that but what is the point of a project if I will be getting a third gen? lol I just want to beef up my FB and make it look pretty and make it run nice.

If you want one from a dealer in the USA, expect to pay about $30K and they will throw in an RX-8 for free. They are not selling crate engines, as far as I'm aware. All the new blocks are reserved for RX-8 production and warrantee replacements. This may not be the case in other markets. You can, however, buy all the parts to assemble one. Suprisingly, the cost of the parts is less than the FD stuff. I think it cost us about $4K for the rotor housings, side housings, rotors, apex seals, etc. on our R&D block. Probably $5K for *everything* (shortblock). It would cetainly be cheaper to buy an engine from a wrecked RX-8...they are out there. We would caution you against buying a blown RENESIS core, however. Due to the chamfered rotors, the apex seal pieces tend to get dragged around between the rotor and side housings, utterly destroying both, in addition to the usual damage to the rotor housings. That means you can only save one side housing, one rotor housing, one rotor and the eccentric shaft, because one apex seal failed. OUCH. Hopefully, our limited RENESIS experience will prove to be the exception. It will take quite a while to know for sure, as most failures are being handled under warrantee, so we independant shops won't see a lot of them for a couple more years.

After all of that you would be better off buying an RX-8.I had one for a year, and it was great. That is far too much work to try putting into a 20+ year old chassis in my opinion.

As I have the information the price is for $5,000.
This includes the Engine with all the components, Gear Box, Wiring Arness. NOT the ECU...
I was thinking in buying one from MOTEC or HALTECH but they are expensive, I am reconsidering going with the Renesis since it is very expensive, but I like the part "Why Not Going To The Extreme"...
Think about it, you are in the U.S. so you can get all you want form this cars... For us to get a Rx8 is only for dreams... $45,000 to get one from the dealer...
