Renesis in fb

Not sure if this would go here but I guess it does. Has anyone on here ever done a renesis swap into a fb? I just got a free renesis and have a fb sitting so figured I would try this. Need to get a idea of what I'm getting into haha. Any help is appreciated. If anyone on here has a build thread about this please direct me there. Thanks.

you need to fab some engine mounts, but otherwise it looks like an easy install.

for the trans, you can use anything, the Rx8 takes a turbo size flywheel, so for an Na trans you need the NA size flywheel.

the hard part is the electronics, the Rx8 ecu expects to see a lot of the car, so it may be cranky. there is someone who has done one, but no build thread, i think

Why not go standalone? When you strip it down, the Renesis isn't any more complicated than your average rotary, and shouldn't be any harder to tune with an aftermarket ECU.

i think Adaptronic makes a plug in ecu, which would be the easiest way

Easiest way:
Carb swap (RB makes the parts)
MSD Flying Magnet crank trigger + MSD 6AL.

If I end up going Renesis that's how I'm doing it.

Dont forget the exhaust fabrication. RENESIS has pretty funky header. I'm sure you could put a Holley 600 or Webber on it and put down plenty of power. I bet you could use a GSL-SE front cover and oil pan for easy mounting and mechanical OMP.

keep in mind the Renesis is reported to be a little longer than our older 13Bs, so the oil pan would have to be modified in some way to fit.

or one could try and source out one of the MoTec's from a Star Mazda car. A standalone PCM programmed/tuned by Mazda to run like a mildy tweaked MSP with all OE engine functions/controls sans the Rx-8 or catalytic converters

Realistically tho, If i had the funds I would totally rock out a RENESIS short block in my car purely for the fact that its already built for 9k+ RPM and is comparably more stout than all prior NA 13B's. It would be cheaper to buy a reman'd RENESIS than building an older 13B to the same level

Yeah but a reman'd Renny would probably have extra oil seals and crap just like they did with the other reman'd rotaries...

Here's a page I found a while back showing a Renesis installed in a 1979.

And here's a thread from 2007

i think you'd just run the stock manifold, its not a restriction.

i'm also not sure if you can use the GSL-SE front cover, the Rx8 has different sized irons, but since the E shaft is the same length, i think the front cover might be shallower?

I guess it would be a cool swap. Saw the one of the startup with the RX8 cluster - super cool looking, like a super updated FB. If you can figure it out go for it!

He's running a P1000.

The real issue is mounting the engine in the engine bay. Most everything else should come down to a soldering gun and some wiring.
