removing wax excess from moldings.

If the wax is smearing, then it may not be set enough to remove or a previous coating treatment is preventing it to. What brand/kind of wax are you using? You might try a terry cloth/micro fiber cloth and a little bit of mineral spirits or paint thinner. If you want to bring the side mouldings back, don't wax them. I've found Mother's Back to Black works great and lasts quite a while on the side mouldings.
Mask off and scrub the mouldings with 0000 steel wool and paint thinner, wash down with dish soap, then the Mother's. Do this after componding the body and prior to waxing. With the B to B applied before the wax, it won't stick to the mouldings like it does when they are dry/weathered.

You can use dishsoap and a rag to remove it. There is also a product called "Back to Black" which is supposed to work. I just picked some up from Autozone, but haven't tried it yet.
Either way, its easier to avoid getting it on these areas than it is to remove it. Have fun...

From an old Copy (1981 I think)of "Rotary News"
An article contain in this old RX-7 enthusiests magazine says that Vinyl Cleaner removes the wax from the body moldings. I have not tried it, but I plan to. The moldings whiten up too fast! You are right!
