Removing a Carb

I will be taking off my carb in the near future to rebuild/get it rebuilt.

Does anyone have any pointers, warnings or so on for me? (I don't know all that much at all about removing a carbeurator)

I haven't removed the rats nest or any other emissions equipment.

Thanks a lot!

its pretty straigh forward .... take off a few bolts and disconnect the choke and solenoids ... and you're all good ... tape and a pen to mark where everything goes back would be good idea if you don't have a good memory

Small hands and patients is what you need. I would recommend taking pics before removal if you have a digital camera. There is a bracket in the rats nest that bolts to the top of the engine that I would remove and get out of the way and also remove the alternator. Removing the nuts that secure the carb to the manifold is the biggest bitch. A Haynes manual is somewhat helpful tho not that explicit.

Ify ou don't need to pass emissions, do the rat's nest removal tutorial first, and well in advance.

The reason for this is because with the nest out, the two bolts on that side of the carb are WAY easier to remove. With the rat's nest in, they're nearly impossible, and take much time, effort, swearing, and in my case a 12mm wrench bend 3/4 of the way down at about a 45 degree angle (thank you Carl!).

Other than that, don't forget to disconnect your OMP rod and tubes, check for any electrical connectors, check that you've disonnected the linkages...

Oh.. and the stud from one of those Bonez Intake Kits does WONDERS for the do-it-yourselfer. It lets me pick the carb up and tilt it with one hand while disconnecting linkages with the other.
