It's garbage anyway, right? This means you need to use a method known as BFH--- Big ******' Hammer.

The hammer idea was a joke. These things are supposed to just pull straight upward and off, ie: no threads, set-screws or other fasteners. If it won't come off that way a dremel should do the trick. Try not to nick the shaft.

Uh, he's trying to get the phenolic (plastic) rotor to come off the top of the distributor shaft but it won't budge. It's supposed to pull straight up and off the shaft by hand.

Just get a chisel and a small hammer and split the rotor. Should be pretty easy to do and only take a few seconds.

I wouldn't beat on the shaft for fear of bending it. I'd instead grab the rotor with vice grips and gently but firmly try to lift it off the shaft. If that doesn't work, I'll start breaking pieces off with the vice grip until I can get a good bite. If that doesn't work, then I'd use a dremel. Plasting and metal debris might get down into the advance mechanism though.

Here's a thought. I'd take two large screwdrivers, one on each side, and pry the rotor upward. It's usually only stuck to the shaft from rust buildup on the little clips inside the rotor. I've even removed rotors and one of the clips stays behind on the shaft.

Similar problem, here. I've removed the slow-adjust locking nut but the dizzy housing is stuck fast, as if there's another bolt holding it to the engine case. Haynes only lists the one nut.

I'm just trying to pull it to verify that the previous owner has stabbed it properly. Liquid wrench has proven ineffective.

yep, mine was just as much of a bastard as yours is being. lift the driver front up in the air and get under the car around where the dizzy is. get a prybar and nestle it up under where the nut locks in (that flat piece off the dizzy) and hammer on the bar. it will jot it loose. after that it won't be much of a pain. should do the trick!

I think some curls could help you too Then again, brute force usually= broken when I do it, so maybe some finess is good sometimes
