John, it is really easy to mount the side marker lights after you take off the trim. Just use the same screw holes you did before. There are plastic inserts in the holes to hold the light and lens to the fender. Good luck on that black stuff. I had to use a wire brush to get mine off. I was repainting the car though, so I didn't care about the paint.

You might try some goo gone, or laquer thinner, or gasoline? That's what I'd start with anyway....

like noted by jamie its a b*tch to get that trim off, i use a blade from my box cutter the short trapezoidal blades, put some painters tape on the dull side and you want to cut as close to the paint with out hitting it, after that a goo gone or similar product will be much more effective, i as well was repainting so hitting the paint a couple of time was no big deal, good luck

Well I figured it would be pretty easy to remount those lights I will do it today.
I really need to repaint my car and fix up some rust spots but I really dont know anything about body work.
But this weekend I kinda got geared up for starting the body work and I started by prepping and painting the rims.
Next I will do the little panal between the headlights

back when i worked at a body shop, we used a pinstripe eraser to get that adhesive stripping stuff off. it's like a cutoff wheel, but with a big rubber disk on instead of the cutting wheel. it works really good as long as you dont sit it in one spot and burn thru the paint.

im currently roll painting my car and i decided my 7 looked more slick without those side bumpers so i removed them and was left with a bunch of cglue crap . i used a damped rag with paint thinner then scraped the glue off with a flat head screwdriver and then i sanded it all to hell

note i sanded the whole vehicle when i started removing the side bumpers you will most likely mess your paint up

Well I am not ready to do the body work just yet so I filled in the spots of the glue that came off with electrical tape so now it looks like I have two black strips down the side.
I know that it is so cheap to do that but it works for now and I can go racing this weekend. Worry about the paint over the winter.

Kev, use a heat gun to warm it up, and then use a hard plastic edge. I was gonna say plastic razor blades, but they're pretty thin. After you warm it up, it should come off pretty easy. That's what I do to get decals off trucks at work, and the glue residue under it. Put some thinner on a rag too. It's gonna be very tedious. But it should work without wrecking your paint. A blow dryer should work the same if you can't get ahold of a heat gun.

Thats what I figured I would have to do.
I am going to try some stuff called goof-off a body guy told me it works awsome and the paint doesnt get wrecked form it.
First Ill heat gun it to get the most off and hope the goof-off works for all the residue.

goof-off will work great for the residue.

I've also used a heat gut to remove emblems.

This is the correct answer. The thing costs 8 bucks, and you will thank him for telling you the fastest/easiest way to accomplish the removal.

And I don't know about using gasoline. Try diesel fuel instead. It's got more detergent in it. Or hydraulic fliud. Tons of detregent in that.

I've tried a heat gun, bug/tar remover, razor blades, about twelve different goop removers, couldn't even make a dent in the ****. I'm putting mine back on and to hell with it....

I used bug and tar remover, a razor blade and buffing compound to remove the last little bits. Worked good no paint issues, took quite a lot of time. But hey I had time just not $'s.
