Removing AC system

I want to remove my AC system since it doesn't work anyway. It looks pretty easy for the most part, but I'm afraid about removing the lines. I don't know if there's any Freon left in the system or not, but I don't want to assume there isn't and find out the hard way that I'm wrong. Is there a simple way to check? If if does have some left, how can I empty it out safely? Are there any other tech tips I should know about before I begin?

i donot really think that there is a reason to worry about it. but you can always just keep a bucket ready incase there is some left in the system when you pull one of the hoses..

It's a liquid? I though Freon was a gas.

I think the liquid you are referring to is the compressor oil....

if it doesn't work then there probably isn't enough to worry about.

Mine didn't work at all when I got it, and receipts showed it had been recharged a couple years before I bought it. So I figured it would be empty, wrong. I think it gave a little pffft and I got impatient and turned it a bit more and BLAM.....blew the hose off, sprayed gas and left foamy liquid everywhere. Ran for the rags and got it off the few spot it hit my paint. No damage. My advice.....turn slowly. Don't eat the stuff that come out, good luck. -George

I dont beleive that oil will hurt the paint, I took all my stuff off back in Sept when I blew the motor and it has been on there till this day. And it didnt hurt it Its just compressor oil....

mike.. that is exactly what that stuff was that came out of the compressor... it surprised me because i was not thinking about it.. the a/c in my new body did not work so i thought nothing about it when i took out the one that did work.. oh well... no more a/c, less weight now, less holding back the crank,.....
more power =

Which hose do you propose that I loosen first to check/empty the system?

I just took mine out today. Not hard at all - just a few bolts.
