removed emissions and trouble

i removed the emissions stuff from the mazspeed site http://www.ten15.net/Maz.tutorials/ the best i could anyhow. and then left the hood open that night and it rained (i had the air cleaner and cover over the carb). tried to start it up to see if it'd idle good basically to see if i got the vacume stuff hooked up close enough to correct. it cranked but wouldnt turn over then click it seemed to have shorted out i figure because of the rain. everything seems to be dry now but still no cranking or nothing. i wanted to get this emissions junk taken care of then i was gonna try and remove all the ac crap but i don't want to dig myself into too deep of a hole at once. any suggestions on how i could get it to start?

Check your fuses, check your fusible links, check your battery. Those will blow in that order if there is a water/electrical issue.

Go get some dielectric grease, it comes in 50 cent packets at AutoZone. Dry out all your ignition connections and put some of this on each one.

If all those are good I'd suggest following the unflooding procedure as if you had given it too much fuel. No pun intended here.

Did it crank a full rotation? You might have water in the combustion chamber and this won't let it turn over. the only way I know how to fix this is to turn the motor over backwards by hand several times and it will push the water out the exhaust ports. As for shorting out... start with the basics at the battery terminals and all grounds. Good luck

well i'm pretty sure no water got into the engine. anyway i was fidlin with it some more and i got trie and jiggle the negative battery terminal again and the buzzer startes singin (for door ajar or key in ignition or whatever it is. when i turn the key all the check lights light up like they are suppose to when you first turn the key but when i turn it all the way to crank the engine it shuts down again so i go rattle the battery around a bit (i dont have it strapped down i've got the car on jack stands for the time being) and the buzzer sounds again , same thing happens jiggle the battery around buzzer sounds. so theres something not getting contact somewhere or something i just aint sure what. thanks much for the help so far though guys i really appreciate it.

Remove and clean your main battery cable connections. Classic high resistance battery issues.

Werd. Nothing a test light (for a short or bad connection) and a cup of hot water, (for any corrosion on the terminals) cant fix.

well screw it bad connection somewhere i'll find it later. i been pulling off the AC stuff today and i notice a couple of cut wires (mice have chewed on the car before i bought it. So i have a new question. There is a black plug with 2 wires coming out of it right below where the ground goes to the strut tower off of the battery on the drivers side. It's right beside a plug the has 2 wires that go to the power steering pump, i'm assuming those are the same two wires and they are connected? There are no wires for evidence in my car but they are so close i assume they must be connected. Sorry to ask such a stupid question things would be so much easier if i had a parts car or a friend with one.

well i'll post a pic of that plug when i figure out how i have a digital camera but i havent figured out how to do all that jazz. any way i got it to start up but it wont idle i was out of gas i think so i went and got some but it still just put'put'puts a few times then dies. i put some blue gasket stuff on both the blocking plates i used and the rest of the vacume lines are plugged or have hoses going somewhere. The car doesnt sound right like maybe its only running on one rotor or some thing it just goes put put put put and if i give it enough gas to get it to rev a little bit it'll only rev to like 2 then die down to nothing again

well i've put on some rb exhaust and i have got the car to run but it still won't idle unless i hold out the choke. So there i was sitting in the car with the choke pulled out and the car idling at 1.5k and since i finnally had it running without having to keep my foot on the gas i got out to take a look under the hood. As i walk around to take a gander at my new exhaust that i had just torqued down a while before i notice that the pipe coming from the front rotor is glowing red and the back pipe looks normal. Why would that be? (and i leave it as simple as that, and yes i feel even stupider than i sound i'm learning as i go)

no cats, just bolted up RB long streetport exhaust. i've been looking for vaccume leaks since i just removed the emissions and it hasn't idled right since, but i have plugs on every nipple that doesnt have a hose and i put blue gasket gunk on the block off plate and the other small block off plate i made for the elbow on the rear of the engine so i don't think they would leak. i'll keep looking. Also i pulled off all the AC stuff so can i get rid of more of the vaccume lines from the ratsnest tutorial and just plug them?

If you have one header pipe glowing and not the other, then it is either the carb or the ignition.
