remove the rats nest?

For an 84 or 85 12a engine:everything stock,
including carb and EX.

what is the good and bad if I remove the rats nest. not all of it is emmisions.

I heard that if the rats nest goes the computer
sometimes called an ecu (electronic control unit)
wont be needed anymore.( from another post of mine.)

should some part of this stuff be left to work
If not, do I change some adjustment on the nikki I will be keeping.

What about backfiring?

I just want to simplify out the engine as I install in a 79 SA.

BTW anyone know if the oil cooler lines on the SA
will fit in the oil cooler side of the engine at the bottom?

on a 12A engine I think the rats nest IS the ECU.

I believe the SA's used a different cooler than the FB. Also I think the lines are not interchangable but you will have to check on that.

For rats nest, I mean all of the soleniods, electrical hookups and vacuum lines that sit on top of the stock engine and connect to a computer (the ecu)and do alot of the controling of I guess the carb and other stuff for emmisions I forget the names of them all. there are about 5 of them on an 84 or 85 12a engine.

Does anybody know if the fittings to the lines for the external oil cooler that mounts under the radiator will fit into the oil ports on the lower side of the 84 or 85 12a which has the cooler on the filter stalk.

great!
I take it you just remove the plug from the back oil port and directly hook up there and remove the oil cooler line at the front of the engine that leads to the stalk cooler and hook up the other under radiator cooler line there.

For the under radiator cooler:
It seems you have to remove the lines from the
cooler so they can be attached to the engine, then attach the lines to the cooler as the fittings on the cooler side allow for tightening without twisting the lines.
Am I right on this?

what did you do to the stalk filter cooler?

anybody about the emmisions controls question (rats nest)? I am interested in details about how the engine functions on all conditions and if I get better response.

Then what is that gold colored electronic box under the driver's side storage bin behind but next to the stereo amp?

I am interested in removing as many of the soleniod and other controls that sit on top of the 12a engine as possible. but I dont want to detach something that is useful or will cause the engine to run worse under some condition.I was refering to all of these controls and the piping as the "rats nest".
the computer or ecu can go to or do I leave it for some reason where it is to do something?

Which of these soleniods if malfunctioning will cause the engine to run poorly or not start at all assuming the engine mechanically is sound?
