Remove driveshaft, tranny fluid spills out, normal?

Should the tranny fluid spill out the back of the trans after removing the driveshaft? Or does that mean the tail shaft seal is bad? Also, while the trans is out, is there anything I should do prior to reinstalling, like new seals or anything? I don't want to rebuild it, as it works pretty good, but is there anything simple I could do to it? TIA

It's normal. Most tool makers (snap on, craftsman, etc) actually make sets of caps in different sizes to plug the tailshaft so you don't make a mess.

you may want to replcae the output shaft seal while you are doing this though.

that's why I back my car up on ramps to ensure that the oil doesn't pour out... Yes, it's very normal.

I STICK a spare driveshaft yoke in there when removing the driveshaft. keeps fluid from spilling.

always replace the seal, no point in re-using something that is already mangled
