Come tax time? That's like... nine months away.

Mazdatrix has a suitable variety of rebuilt engines.

ATK or Atkins has off the self engines. The advantage of ATK is that you can use your credit card, and shipping is free.

I installed a stock atkins three and 1/2 years ago. They were supportive, but there were several gottcha's. Ended up spending an additional $500 for motor hoist, supplies, water pump flange, tools, radiator cored (per warranty) . spark plugs, cooling pressure tested (per warrenty ) and clutch hydraulics.

An engine will be $2,000 and up. Atkins' are $2400 + $250S&H. Mazdatrix' E-level runs $4,400 and is basically a complete rebuild. If you nab a workable block from another car for a few hundred and rebuild it yourself, maybe $2,000 total (block, kit, and extra parts). You also might be able to get a JDM for ~$1500 but I will make no statements about the quality of the rebuild there, because I don't know enough yet.

Autozone sells remans for 1500 delivered to their store.

Check them out. For an 85 13B it was 1499 delivered to the store and comes with a 3 year warranty.

You just have to pay for the sales tax. Oh and if you use your reward card you get extra $$$ for your big purchase.

Sounds worth checking out.

I have not but I have searched and compared and reviewed all the positive and negative of the various builders out there.

For me the autozone option is almost painless. I haven't pulled the trigger yet and my baby is just sitting there for months now with a broken motor.

As soon as I get the money I might go this route. I am still thinking...

i dont know who builds these for autozone, but checker/schucks/kragen uses hayes, which is a ripoff no matter how much it costs

rx 7 rage,
I asked the same question after my stock 12a blew an apex seal. I got many many answers. The one I believed (atkins or mazdatrix) was that you need a donor car to do the conversion.

Those that said the conversion was simple obviously weren't familiar with the details, fuel injection, different emissions, different OMP oilers, different exhaust, different front plate mounting brackets........

You might consider rebuilding it yourself, Atkins has a how to CD.
