He refused to take fingerprints too, saying it was worthless. Im really pissed about this guys. I was thinking I could sue the PD for the costs of repairs because of an improper investigation, lol. Damn it guys, I need SOMETHING from all this...I was really hoping it might be enough to pull off a 13BT swap .

~T.J.

EDIT - BTW, expl0d, not to sound like a complete dick, but you should really take the "not many 17 year olds with an FD" off your sig man. For one, no one really cares how old you are, and if they do, they could ask. Secondly, and most important, It just makes you sound like a ******* rich *****. Ever since I drove my cousins 94, I would love to own one too, but I wouldnt say that Im 19 and own one... Oh well, just my two cents, and its still a sweet car .

Scumbags like these never have two nickels lying around. They'll have to steal another car to come up with the cash!
Wouldn't be so bad if the car being stolen was a civic

jk, even those ricer ******** don't deserve that most of the time.

Yeah, I wouldnt wish this on anyone...It truly sucks.

Even if I dont like their choice of car, or what they did to it, they do, and its cool to them, so essentially, it would be them loosing all their hard work and love, just like I lost mine.

I was to understand that there was a system that ran a small shock through the seats ( and i think the door handles) that when armed it would shock the person trying to steal the car. Cant remember where i saw it, but it was in a catalog somewhere for an ungodly amount of money. As i remeber it wasnt enough to kill, but enough to make the person jump and get out.

glad you got your car back , but damn boy you lucky you didnt get shot, I doubt you will see anything out of some useless ***** like them, well as far as money. and they always let people that dont have a life go from jail pretty quick, if it been a somewhat decent person, they'd been in jail for months!

Hello T.J.

I’ve just found this thread, sorry I’m finding it so late, I would have responded MUCH sooner.

When my car was stolen and recovered you sent “kind words” my way – yes, I still remember your words. So now it’s my turn to reciprocate.

It breaks my heart to see the extent of damage inflicted on your poor car. Hopefully you are able to restore it to its original beauty. I know this kind of restore takes many hours, many moments of frustration and of course it takes…. Money.

In the end though, you will have a much greater appreciation for that car and the personal satisfaction that goes along with knowing you fixed it yourself.

Having walked the same mile you are walking right now, trust me when I say I KNOW how you feel.

These days, when I get behind the wheel of my car, I can’t help but smile.

This day will come for you too and you WILL catch yourself behind the wheel GRINNING!

Good Luck with the restore.

Its odd to me that not only did you hear about this late, I just now found this reply!! I came here to post a minor update, and was shocked to see a post I hadnt seen before (Note to self - Subscribe to thread ). In any case, I appreciate the kind words you had for me, and I know that you can relate to what I was/am going through. I still think that what you went through was worse than mine. The damage done to your car seemed so much more extensive than what I now need to deal with. However, I have confidence that in the end, I will as you say, sit behind my steering wheel, smiling .

For the rest of you, I only came here to update you a small amout with how the "legal action" (seems to be an oxymoron) is going with my car. I finally got tired of waiting for the Police to contact me with the information I need to file a law suit against the thieves. I only needed the names of the suspects and the address, not too hard, right? Wrong. Wouldnt you know it, everytime I try and contact someone at the Police station, "they will call back". As we all know, they never do. So, the other day I was going to the police station to visit them in person once again, and I decided to just head out to the house that the car was recovered at, and just get the damn address myself. There was no mail box out front as it seems to have gone missing since the theft . So, being the bold (read - stupid) person I am, I pulled right into the driveway (in the same silver RX-7 I was driving the day the cops were there), got out, walked up to the front door, took down the hose number, then calmly left (by calmly, I mean trampling bushes and kicking rocks ). Anyway, having the house address wasnt much use to me, as I couldnt find a place anywhere on the net that would tell me the owners name or anything without paying (anyone know a way to find out that info?). So, I headed down to the Police station. When I got there, the secretery recognized me. Probably cause shes stupid and unhelpful, so I was sorta mean the last time I was there. She of course put up a front not wanting to help. I finally gave in and played the "oh Im so sorry" nice guy card, and got some information from her. She informed me that she didnt have any suspects names in the computer for me, but to my surprise, the case had been re-opened due to new evidence, and was under new investigation by the detectives unit!! She also told me that I could get the information I wanted from the lead detective!! I was so happy right up until she told me the lead detective was in the reserves and shipped out about 2 hours before I got there for training or something and wont be back for about a month .

Oh well, such is life. Looks like Im STILL waiting to get the names of the people. Im about to just go knock on the damn door myself and ask (by ask I mean force) the people to tell me their names...

I still dont know what I should do about taking legal action. I was told they rent the house, so should I go after the tenants personally (obviously not "well off"), or could I go after the property owner? Do I persue legal action now as in ASAP, or hold off until the case is "resolved"? I was originally thinking I wanted to get it in to court ASAP, but something is telling me to wait until the case is "resolved" with the Police. That way, if theyre found guilty of stealing the car, theyre basically obligated to pay for it. So if I take them to court for restitution after being found guilty of it, a judge would basically look at the case, and just tell them to pay, whereas if I take them to court now with "hear say" evidence that they did it before its "resolved", its just my word against theirs, right? Anyone in the legal field here? Anyone with experiance in this area?

Hmmmm. My suggestion to you is to talk to a lawyer. Find a lawyer with a small practice. Go in person. He should listen to you and may give some free advice as to the best way to handle it. Thats what I did. The first lawyer I talked to didnt help except to give me the name of another lawyer who was the one willing to hear my story and offer some advice free of charge.

A county clerk of someone should be able to tell you the name of the property owner.

Sorry about the car man.

I would say do this:

1. The the owner's info. (County clerk or something)
2. Contact him to get the tenant's names.
3. If he gives you ANY trouble, sue him. If the cops knew these guys were "bad eggs" the owner probably did too. This means he was knowlingly letting these crooks do their deeds on his premises, and should be held responsible.
4. After getting the names from the property owner sue the tenants. Even if you don't get any money out of it, you should at least get the satisfation of putting them $10k in debt. Maybe they won't ever make a payment to you, but they'll have a hard time getting ANY credit, another place to live, etc.
5. If any of these guys actually has a job, get his wages garnished.

That's what I can come up with off the top of my head. Anybody have some better ideas?

Devious, but yes. It would bring me satisfaction to know that they are finacially screwed for the rest of eternity.

Good idea about the county clerk though, I hadnt thought of it. Sounds like I have somewhat of a plan of action. Ill contact the clerk (or whatever), try and get names, follow up, etc. Thanks for the tip .

Thanks. Glad I could help.

As an added bonus, you can sell the debt to a collection agency. Sure, you probably won't get much for it, but you can have even more satisfaction knowing that the agency will be calling them all the time asking for money.

Another option might be to try and get a lien on their car. If the title for their car is from your state, you might be able to pull this off. Then (when they still don't pay you) you can come take their car, legally!

I'm very impressed by the detective work you've done. I look forward to hearing more.

How does selling the debt to a collection agency work? Whats that all about?

Unfortunatly, their car isnt worth as much as my shoes, lol. Its a mid 80's Chevy Sprint thats been beat to hell and back, has no rear hatch glass, etc.

Thanks for the compliments, but it really isnt much more than most of you would do to get your car back.

As far as updates, Im still waiting for the detective to come back into town, but on the good side, the job at the BMW dealership is looking up, so I might have some money soon .

Also, Ive been working under the hood of my 7 getting her ready for paint and so on. There are some pictures on my Car Domain site (click the picture in my sig). Page 22 and on is after it was stolen. Feel free to check that out and leave comments if you want .

Here are some links about collection agencies.

http://www.allbusiness.com/articles/content/115.asp

http://www.allbusiness.com/articles/content/14965.asp

http://www.nolo.com/lawcenter/ency/a...2DC65DB15E9751

http://www.abccompanies.com/resource/uscollect.html#Q#1

You can probably find one in the phone book.

The basic idea is that you don't want to put all the time into getting the money yourself, so you sell the debt to an agency or give them a percentage. They then do all the legwork to garnish their wages, get leins on their property, call them all the time, put it on their credit rating, etc.

Judging by the descripting you've given me, chances don't seem that good of you getting a significant amount of money unless one of these guys has a job and you can get his wages garnished. A collection agency might up your odds, and would probably make their lives more difficult too.

Contact a lawyer immediately and get this rolling. I don't know about Canada, but in the states there is a thing called "Lawyers Reference Service" where you get a half hour of a guys time for $15, which is usually enough to assess your chances and find out what you can do. My experience with lawyers is that they know the ropes but it's up to you to determine strategy, and you've already shown ability to do that. And I think you know what you want.

It's easy to get the owners name and address at the county seat. It's public record and maybe you can get it on the phone. Then you contact him and get the tenants name(s).

I talked to our legal advisor, and he said it would be best to wait until the case is closed and see what happens to him before dragging him into court.

Oddly enough I was at 7-11 last night around 12am and I was buying a slurpee when a blue Geo Tracker pulled up parking next to my car, and some guy got out and kinda checked out my car (silver 7) then walked in. I kinda gave him a head nod as we passed (me on the way to the counter, him into the store) just being curteous, and he got an "oh ****" look on his face. I couldnt figure it out until I went outside where I noticed that this particular blue Geo Tracker was the one that left the house with a guy and girl in it the day I found my car. I recognized it because of the mismatched tail gate and the lack of a top.

Just to proove myself right, I stalled while sitting in my car in the parking lot waiting for him to come out and leave so I could sorta follow him, but he was obviously stalling too. He kept looking over the top of shelves to see if I was still there. I finally said **** this and started to leave. I slowly crept through town at 20 MPH in a 25 waiting for a sign of his headlights, but nothing. So, where the speedlimit goes from 25 in the town up to 50 where the highway begins I sped up and turned off on one of the first roads, then sat on the shoulder facing the highway waiting for him. I knew he would be going this way if it was in fact the same car. He finally passed and I pulled out behind him. I think I scared the **** outta him too cause he was trying to run or something. As soon as I got behind him his car went from 60 to 80. I was casually keeping up as the Geo posed no problem for the 7 with RB exhaust. Anyway, my suspicions were confirmed when he turned onto the road that leads to the house that I found my car at. So, I got his license plate number (the only car at that house I didnt get the plate number on), and I plan to report it to the police as soon as the detective gets back in town. Who knows, maybe the plate number was a missing piece of evidence. Or, maybe I just like harrassing these people .
