Rebuilt or Not? 12A motor
Hey,
I just did a swap with a guy here locally. I traded him my 86 lincoln town car for an 86 RX7 and a 12A motor that he said the previous owner had rebuilt.
Now, is there a way to tell if the engine is rebuilt or not without it being inside the car? It's dirty but spins easily but just wanted to know if there was a way to tell without having having it in the car.
Thanks,
Mike

if the apex are new when you spin the engine you will hear the compression coming out the spark plug holes. now i dont see why and 86 would have 12a engine on it since all 86 came with a 13b from factory.

or if you have a borescope you can see internally through the sparkplug holes other than that you could take exaust manifold out and look through there or intake but this would start to get complicated. so your best bet would be what we mentioned above take spark plug out spin the engine and hear for puffs of air. or do a compression test that will tell you how good the apex are. now is this car running ?
