Rebuilding my Carb

Man, I knew it was tough, but not this tough!

got it off the car ok (the left rear nut holding it to the mani was a PAIN) and in the process of taking it apart. Have my handy dandy haynes manual, and tape/marker so I can write the step number corresponding to the part on it.

Any tips/tricks? I have searched already, so if there is anything I could do performance wise or whatnot, dont hesitate to say

oh, and no, I refuse to do mechanical secondaries, that really messed up my carb... thats why its getting rebuilt. hard to idle, and major major backfires when i kept accelerating in a gear for too long (too long = more than 5 seconds), so bad it blew up my muffler...

If it helps, in my sig line is a link to the online factory carb manual. Rebuilding a Nikki can be quite intimidating at first with all the parts. 2 suggestions, 1. take lots of pics, step by step, 2. once the air horn is off, make a digram of the top of the body and note the # imprinted on all of the jets and emulsion tubes.

The only trouble I see myself having, is attaching all the linkages back and getting the hoses where they need to go when it is back on the car.

part 2:

this linkage is hitting the viewing glass, preventing it from opening all the way.. any ideas on how to fix it? I am quite stumped, or I am just overlooking something very obvious...

thanks a ton guys!

I only see half of that side of the carb on yours. On the side you mention there should be the TPS and at the top there should be a dashpot but I don't see either of them in your picture.

I am missing a lot of things on my carb, some choke related stuff and whatnot. I was following the haynes manual, and some things it said wernt on there. but the car ran fine, minus the huge backfiring.

the only side of the carb i did not take a picture of was the top, i have all four sides, and a bottom shot.

Sorry, I forgot you have a Sa. Where you have indicated there should be nothing. The screw at the bottom in that picture should be straight up and down.

so the 2nd post, the screw that holds the arm hitting the viewglass should be up and down? if I put it up and down, would I be moving hte arm over the glass, or back? lets say it like this: when the throttle opens, should the arm be moving towards the glass or should it be moving away? see picture, one or two

You need to undo that side of the linkage and put it back on correctly. The top portion of the linkage that is hitting the sight glass belongs to the left bottom from where it is now. It is supposed to be against the TPS and the head of the adjusting screw should be pointing upwards towards you.

thats the thing, I never touched that linkage. and now the head is stripped, so I doubt I can pull it off
