rebuild stock carb.

I want to get a new carb but until i get the money to buy the right one, I want to get my stock 12 Carb. rebuilt. Does anyone know who i could send it to, and does a good job? the lady who sent it to get rebuilt before i got it sent it to mr. carburator.., my rotary guy says they did a terrible job. and the car is running lean.

any links to the people or person that does these carb rebuilds will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

right up until you lose the rods and check *****..lol...make sure you don't turn the carb body upside down until you've removed those items from their wells and either took pictures or wrote down which rod or ball came from which well. They are all different!

I'll say one thing though:

Take lots of time, lots of space and TONS of digicam pictures!

Get a box of 100 small ziplock baggies and a black marker, more rags than you know what to do with, some carb cleaner, and a clear well ventilated (ie:garage) workspace.

Take your time, examine every piece and how it goes together and comes apart.. draw diagrams... I tried mine, but it was TOO rusted/gummed/shot to hell for a simple rebuild to fix and I wasn't the one to take it apart, so putting it back together without notes would have been a bugger.

And if you survive, save all the notes, digicam pics and everything, I can help you put it all together into an online tutorial to help those who haven't done their nikki yet! (like me, who'se never actually fully dissasembled and reassembled one!)

When I rebuilt mine last year I layed all the parts out on white paper as they came off and referenced them to the step numbers in the Hayes manual. Went back together smoothly. Car ran much better after the rebuild. Having compressed air available will be really handy, and don't drop those BB's, what a pain in the *** to find.

I got mine rebuilt at KD Rotary. Dave did a great job cleaning it up and even did some little modifications too.

The manual proved somewhat useless to me, though I'm not exactly sure why. Something tells me there are differences between the one they rebuilt and the one off my '84 that I just didn't see...

And unless someone is good enough to rebuild one with their eyes closed, my '84 is basically junk for now... Because it's a tupperware box full of carb parts, as opposed to an intact carb! (luckily, my godfather was smart enough not to take out the jets or the little things that hold the "BB"s in place.... the main part is where he stopped...).

My pops rebuilt a Nikki carb a few years ago.

Every time I tried to get him to rebuild mine he commented on what a pain in the *** it was and how he would never want to do one again.

But it can be done if you have 30+ years experience with carbs Turned out the car didn't need a new carb just some dizzy work, so make absolutely sure the problem lies in the carb.

I also had a carb rebuilt for my '7 which really needed new cats.

Ask Sterling, he does it right.

Carl and I have decided on $150 plus shipping for a rebuild. We'll clean it, change all gaskets, and stand behind our work. After sales/service help will ALWAYS be available for everyone.
We are breaking the "Nikki Carb Modding business" ice by starting out with simple rebuilds. When we get acclimated to the carb business, we will begin modding carbs in a variety of configurations which range from simple mechanical secondary operation combined with expanded accellerator pump volume and sroke all the way to street rod modding with bored primaries, shaved throttle shafts and booster venturis, ect.
The challenging part, and the Nikkis that I really want to have our **** together before we offer to the public are the race-ready modded carbs that conform to strict SCCA class rules.
If I screwed up on Supraslincs carb, I could work something out with him- refund him his money and send him some free sparkplugs... whatever. But if he won a race and then was disqualified because his carb did not conform to the rules- well, there's not much that will appease THAT situation!

Anyway, neither Carl or I think we're going to actually make alot doing any of this. We're going to do it because we love it, and because Yaw has a business to run which apparently cannot be sustained by a handful of Nikki Mods. His absence from the scene is understandable, it's just how he never said anything that is'nt. The brilliant Mr. Yaw is simply moving on to bigger and better things, and that's fine. But it opens the door for Carl and I to get some grease under our nails.
Speaking for myself, my goal is to have fun, learn more, and fund my supercharger project!

Please direct all modification questions to either Carl or myself directly via Email instead of the boards, as we may not have discussed the topic specifically yet.
