I was planning on rebuilding my 79 12a enigne over the winter with my grandfather, and I was looking at some rebuild kits from atkins rotary- http://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/cu...me.php?cat=590

I was thinking about the overhaul kit A but, does that really have all I need to rebuild? Do I need to replace the apex seals or whatever? The engine has about 130k miles on it and smokes real bad on startup. Also, it's leaking quite a bit of oil in front of the front rotor housing. Overhaul kit B and C seem a bit pricy, do I really need all that stuff, or can I just get the rotor kit?

Can someone help me out? Thanks

 

My suggesting is take your motor apart 1st then based on what you see buy what you need.

 

Make sure that the kit that you buy is 100% Mazda parts. I had issues before with "Viton" oil control ring gaskets. The stock rubber ones are viton coated, and are pliable enough to press in, some 100% Viton ones are too hard and don't want to go in at all, or are not the correct size or shape.

I didn't want to spend the extra money for the stock o-rings, and it wasn't worth the hassle.
