reborn...

ive been a member for a while and owned 3 rx-7s in the past 4 years or so, anyways my dad is about to get his old 84 gs-l back and wants to put rims and tires on it...i told him hes only going to be able to get 17's on comfertably...can anyone confirm this for me? he will prabably want some racing beat springs also for a better ride and just want to make sure everything will work out before he buys the parts...

P.S. im going to be doing the work on this so i dont want him to buy parts and have to send them back bc i wanna drive this as much as he does

an 84 gsl..u can get kosies, panasports or stock le wheels. those go for the most part in 14's and 15's i think. as for rb, there are other choices such as eibach pro-kits and some other more stiff springs too.

2-3 inch drop? Holy lowrider batman! Maybe you should look at some 13" wheels instead??

A 2-3" drop will wipe out what suspension you have and blow out any shock/strut that you put on there. Don't believe me? Crawl under the car and see how much room is between the rear axle and the bump stops. Just the standard lowering springs need the bump stops trimmed.

To drop the front more than the standard lowering spring allows, you need to cut off the top of the shock tower and weld in Mazdatrix's strut tower extension.

**** man, with my RB springs (0.9" drop from stock) I can barely fit my jack under the car to jack it up.

3" drop would almost put me directly on the pavement.

You must watch too many ricer tv shows and magazines favored by the "civic nation" of people. When you have a car this low to start with, you don't need to slam it to the ground.

And if you do, it's for looks only, because drivability goes to CRAP!

If you really really really want to put 17" on there, don't lower the car. Roll your fender lips, go with RB or Eibach springs, and hope you never have to drive over speed bumps or curbs that aren't cut flat to the pavement. Yes, 17" is the biggest rim I've seen on an FB, and it isn't completely uncommon, just not ideal IMHO.
