rearend swap
Ok, I know this has been discussed before, and yes, I did searches for 3 days. No answer to my question.
A friend of mine has an 87 B2200 he is about to have hauled off. The rearend has very few miles on it. So, will the 3rd member ( pumpkin) swap out with my 85 SE? It seems that I saw somewhere that some of these do and some don't. I have been to Felix's page and it doesn't say that it is a direct swap. Any help will be appreciated.
Peejay, I know you are well versed on this from reading your previous posts on this. Your input would be well appreciated.

set in in your garage for the time being.... i doubt it would be any better than the se rear end. but i dont know much about rear ends other than you can break em pretty easy in these cars

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
I believe the B2200 ring and pinion will fit in your GSL-SE third member or pumpkin..
But why would you want to do that when they are all 4.11 . ?
If you want to go up in gear ratio and want t junk yard shop then use a miata 1994 and newer LSD with the 4.30 or use the front diff from a B2600 4x4 truck, it is 4.44 and will fit perfectly in your GSL-SE rear end housing....
Or one more trick ..the front diff from a Kia 4x4 1994-2001 has a 4.88 ratio and is a dirct bolt on with a GSL-SE rear end..
I love junk yard jewels..
God bless

I love the junk yard, but there are no Miatas here. I no longer have a 4:076 in my SE. It is out of an 84 GSL. 3:90 or 3:93, not much difference than the original realy. The guy seems to think that it is a 4:44 in his truck. At any rate the 4:44 you mentioned, is it a direct bolt in or just the ring and pinion gear? Are there any onther mods that have to be done with it or just bolt in and go?

I would like to know if there is any 3rd member rear ends that you can get the (pumpkin) chunk out of and bolt right in to my 84 85 GSL (big axles)? Or is there a whole rear end out of 3rd members that will work with mine. I have a 1982 Mazda RX7 that had a 84 85 GSL rear in it. I would like to have more gears if possible since I have to get a new rear. So if i can use another one and get more gears that would be so awesome. Now I need a REAR END b/c mine is broke on the R/P.
Anybody out there know this info and can give me some advice on which way to go so i can get my car back on the road. I am so ready to drive him again.
Thanks for any help.

Been well covered in this section but here ya go-

If your are looking for just the Ring and pinion you can use the Kia ones also and can find that information in the archives section.
