Rear Window Lifters

Anyone have any advise on replacing the rear window lifters? Any particular brand or equipment that has worked well? Mine have lost all pressure they may have had.

Are these lifters okay?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Do you have a rear wiper? Most of the replacements I've seen say they will not work with the wiper.

Mazdatrix (I think) sells some that are supposed to work either way, and can work with louvers too.

got some from advance auto parts that work both ways.

if you have the OEM ones though, you need a hack saw

If your cheap, drill a hole through it and use a pin to keep it up.

I've used StrongArm brand thru local parts stores (NAPA here) - _Lifetime_ replacement warranty! -AND have actually claimed this (on my Saab, same brand strut) and they exchanged them locally no Qs asked....!
AND: these have the ability to accept the OEM rear wiper harness hardware off your old strut...

why a hacksaw? thats kind of an odd response that could potentially lead to further bad advice and broken parts..

It is a little vague. If you are transfering the connectors and wiring for the rear wiper you need to cut the shaft on the OEM strut to slide the contacts off. The end of the Strong Arm strut unscrews. Step by step labeled pictures, like these, are at the link I posted above.

+1

I have used these for some time, and on numerous cars with or without rear wipers. They are very strong, good quality, as stated before can accept the factory stuff, and have a lifetime warranty. I don't see a point going with anything else.

I know they are available at any Advance Auto for around $20 a piece.

I just got some Strong Arm supports from Advance Auto and they only seem to have one end on them. The other end is just threaded. Is that how they are supposed to be? I haven't had a chance to look at my old ones yet.

when I got mine from advance, they came with a bunch of parts

a screw with a ball on the end to replace the one that mounts to the car (not the window) (you need to unscrew the old one with the lifter attached. its a pain)

the rod, with a socket to go over the ball and a threaded other end

a kind of forked bracket that screws onto the rod

a retaining pin and clip to attach the forked bracket to the window.

Also have done this. Strongarm is the best to get, despite being slightly more expensive.

I concur.
I put these on my 83, and even after 5 years, raise the glass a few inches and let go. It will finish opening on it's own.

I got mine at the local NAPA store. No issues installing them. Don't remember the part number though.

I didn't realize the rear wiper motor connects to the lifter, ****. i'll have to remember that when i put it on, damnit. i just got louvers and the rear hatch doesn't go up anymore. I know having a wiper under louvers is kind of odd, but it fits so i figured when i find one I'll nab it. guess i may as well attempt the strongarm mod.
