Rear spring height

Whats the factory rear spring height on the GSL-SE?

I'm looking into getting a few different sets of springs for my project so that I can swap out parts as needed for track conditions - I've only ever really dealt with FC suspension so I dont know what the height of the stock FB spring is?

Thanks!

Rear spring height from a GSL (all models have same rear springs, iirc) is 13.75. I would say they are stock 14" since they are 25 years old and whatnot. Measured from bottom coil to top.

Awesome - thanks!

I want to get a set of 5.5" race springs, but I guess they are too short - I'll have to find some 8 or 9" versions...

I've heard of some members putting on lowering spring kits onto their car and it actually rose the car up. Can only imagine how saggy those springs are after 20+ years.

My ride height did not change in the front when I went to ST springs.

I have RB springs on my 82 and it dropped a good inch and a half front and back; however, I have B&G springs on my 84 and they rose the rear just a bit.

Send Bwaits a PM and ask about his adjustable perch/rear springs (I don't think they actually have this on the website yet, but they are carrying it now). I just installed a set this past fall, and its a great product. You can swap out different spring ratios as needed, and height adjustment is as simple as can be. Definitely a product that should be on any racer's wish list in my opinion...

Center of rear wheel well lip measure ~24" from the ground with the standard lowering springs. Measuring the unsprung height of a stock spring is not a valid comparission for sourcing heavier lb/in springs as each will compress differently once they are loaded. A better basis for comparision is to measure body height and spring height as it sits in the car. Then you get to do the math. If one installed a 175 lb/in spring in the rear that was the same length as a stock spring, the bumper would be way up in the air.

I hope this guy doesn't plan on being too low as the suspension gets more compressed the car handles worse. As far as keeping the original rear end goes. You can't lower more than an inch without going to a tri-link and panhard. The front'a a bit easier to get away with. If I were you guys I would buy the g-force engineering book and read up before you make arbitrary chanmges to your suspension. The FB is not that easy to make handle good after you go past lowering springs (They all only drop the car about 1-1 1/2 inches btw because that's all you can get away with) and struts. If it's a track car you need to spend the extra money. My friend did and the car is far superior to what most guys are running. Not saying you have to believe me but you should find out about that stuff before deciding to buy anything. Careful where you spend your money, just because you buy something doesn't mean your car will be improved.
