Rear end whining.

Ok so I feared this might happen. I just put in an LSD and I now have a nice whining. While I can't tell for certain if its the rear or the tranny, as my tranny has been getting bad slowly and will need a new tranny or rebuild soon, if it is the rear end are there any suggestions besides getting rid of it. I do not have fluid with friction modifiers in it at the moment, not sure if that makes a huge difference or not. I also know I can put some redline in there and that might make a difference. I am going to check to make sure its full of fluid and so is the transmission in a little bit. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ben

I believe that the LSD rear end will make noise unless it has the proper LSD fluid in it. If you change to a proper lubricant, the noise should go away.

I changed the fluid, but with normal rear end fluid, a nice 75-90 non lsd or synthetic. Mayhaps I will try to get some for LSD's. Thanks for the tip.

For a non slip 3rd member, without the correct fluid =
one unhappy rearend. how many miles are on the LSD?
do you know. it might be shot out already. see how much play there is in the drive line. You installed an
whole different rear end ? ,, drums, to disk ? How are
the rear wheel bearings. but you really need to get limited slip differential fluid in there (oil any brand ).
plus an LSD IS going to make more noise however, anyway by nature.

Yeah, you'll be ok. don't forget to drain the other oil out
