Exclamation rear end noises... HELP!

hey.... i finally got my se suspension/rearend swap completed.... i filled the rearend with castrol gear oil with LSD performance additive of whatever.. i only put 1 quart in it... wasent sure if it needed more than that... but i went on a test drive with it and its runs fine no clicking of anything.. but when i get going faster it starts making a whooshing noise... not quite a whine and not grinding... im wondering if maybey the rearend dosent have enough fluid in it or is it possible that the rearend is no good?...... it seems that the lsd is still good cause when i spin the part where the drive shaft connects bots tires spin the same way...

anyone got any ideas?

thanks

you need to fill the rear end till it's level with the fill plug ( I think) it should tell you in a haynes manual

Yeah. Youre supposed to put oil in until its level with the hole, or coming out, whatever.

Also if that noise doesn't go away,

It's the cone bearing that is on the pinion gear inside the diff. Rebuilt my rear end and it always made noise until now. Perfectly quiet.

I did a disc brake swap on my 82 and I have kinda the same problem. When I get to about 40 mph, the rear end will start to whine. It will only whine till 50mph and that is when I am accelerating. Ill rebuild it eventually but as for right now, I dont really know what it is. Any Ideas

Ya I just changed my rear end fluid, and it took 2 quorts. The maual says 1.8 I think.

But a good rule of thumb is to keep filling untill you get to the bottom of the fill hole. This is what I was trained to go by in the Garage I used to work in.

Then you know you atleast have enough fluid
