Rear end for the FB

Now i will be having a TII motor going in the car and going to make 400hp. i wont be running the 400hp on the street only for drag. I know there is the 8.8 from granny's that i can swap in for 2500+? so i thought to my self cant i just put a kaaz 1.5 into my gsl rear end get the moser axles. its a alot cheaper that way i think but wll it hold up to 400hp on drag radials?

you can also use a early 90's toyota truck (2wd ones) the rear end is about an inch longer total (1/2 inch either side) just cut off the brackets on your gsl rear, and weld them to the toyota rear. its basically a ford 8" rear. i am/will be running 400whp also, and have had no issues so far.

There's a Ford 9" for sale in the race car parts section.

The Aussies are really fond of the Hilux rearends for their 1st gens, which in the US is a Toyota.

Yes the toyota axles come in a limited slip plus the after market support for a toyota axle is awsome!

I have a 1992 4runner in my yard right now and I want to use the axle because it is a LSD and has 4.55's in it, most 4runners and club cab 4x4 pickups will have either the 4.55's or even 4.88's stock

Do you have any better information on how much work it was to get that axle to fit? Also what do you do about rim matching?

personally I'd rather just get a kaaz/cusco/guru differential. They're expensive but cheaper than the rear end swap. That and if I was to swap another axle I'd just want to put a similar Diff. in it anyhow. There's nothing exciting about an OEM LSD no matter the manufacture.

If this is going to be a drag only car, you don't want a differential at all -- they're heavy, and more likely to fail. You want a spool. It locks both wheels together, which is a good thing if you're going in a straight line. ISC Racing made one for FBs, and I'm sure there are a bunch of outfits that make them for other rear ends. If you don't want to spring for a spool, you can weld it up, as driftking777 mentioned.

As for the 9" Ford -- they're very strong, but very heavy and not very efficient. With only 400 HP (don't take it the wrong way, it's just that in the world of drag racing that isn't a whole lof of power), you don't want to waste it pushing around extra mass or lose it to parasitics.

Sorry to revive this.

What modifications are done to the driveshaft? or did you just get a custom one made?
