1. The wheel bolt pattern is larger on the GSL-SE than on a 12A car.
2. 1984-1985 axle shafts (12A and 13B) have a larger spline diameter than prior models.
3. #2 also applies to the wheel bearings.

Your best bet is to use the GSL-SE rear, and swap in GSL-SE strut assemblies up front. Of course you need 'SE wheels too. I found that the 'SE brakes are much better than the 12A ones.

Swapping entire rears is not that difficult. My experience is that it is more difficult to take the axles out and swap the third member. Just swap the whole thing out and be done with it. You're likely to run into trouble if you don't anyways, since yours is an 83.

i did my lsd swap in 3 days.my differenential was the stock one and i had rear drums.my project consisted of swaping the following parts

- whole diff with lsd from a 1983 12a gsl.
- rear drums where converted into disks with callipers.
-different drive shaft off of a 1984 with a different yolk diameter on the drive shaft.
- new tokico shock absorbers.
-beefeer rear springs.
-swapping the parking cable from my 1981 to a 1983.

the whole project cost me a total of 165 dollars all from the junk yard.awesome noticable diiference.

good luck..

thanks, by the way i did the swap this week end and it took me 3 hours, the only thing i have left to do i go get new calipers and install. it was pretty simple to do the swap. i noticed that it was easiear taking the whole thing apart and put it in together cause it was lighter.
