Rear Disc Brake Screws

I just sold a set of Kosies to another 84GSL owner that I never installed on my 84 and he called me last night to ask me if he had to keep the 2 Screws that hold the Rear Disc Rotor on.
He told me that the only way the Rear Wheels will go on Straight is he had to remove them. Then they line up correctly.

Will the Rotors stay on OK without them?
He is using Gorilla Conversion Lugs.
Did a Search!!!!
Thanks
Steve

Should need em, they are just on there to hold the drum in place until you put the wheels on.

The wheels and the lug nuts hold the brake drum in place. These screws are real soft metal and wouldn't hold much under stress I'm sure. So leaving them off is ok, it may make changing a tire tricky if the drums want to fall off without them, but if the shoes aren't worn beadly and the brakes are adjusted correctly that shouldn't be a problem.

He doesn't have drums, he has discs.

And yeah, it will work fine without them, because the lugs go through the discs and onto the hub.

Thumbs up

I kinda figured that the Screws where there just to keep the Rotor lined up when installing Stock Wheels with the Screw in type Bolts.
Like I stated, he replaced those with Studs.
Poor guy spent 2 hours trying to figure out why the Kosies whould not go on flush on the rear.
When he called me he was Screaming for his money back. Thats when I told him to remove those Screws.
I just wanted to make sure tho.
Thanks for the Info Guys.

So that's what those 2 little holes are for.......
I dunno why everyone says brakes drums will fall off without the screws, Mine doesn't have the screws, and the drums do not fall off when I take the wheels off. In fact, I have to use a block of wood and a small hammer, to get the drums to pop off the end of the axles.
When I get around to putting a GSL readend in it, I may use the screws, if they are even there.
Over 10K miles without any worries about the missing screws. In fact, until just recently, I wasn't even sure if my wheels had the cutouts for the screws or not. A lot of aftermarket wheels do not have these.

I went and bought replacement screws for my GSL rear-end, but that's just because I didn't want to waste a lot of time lining up the holes to put the wheels back on if the brakes were floating on the hub a little bit. But, that's just me.
